It depends on the area but I really think Paris is very safe considering how big of a city it is, I very rarely have any problems or have to worry about walking after dark. Of course there is certain areas that are less safe than others but it is very easy to avoid
Posted: May 27, 2025Montpellier can be a safe city if you avoid certain parts of Town, especially at night. You have to be cautions about being robbed or harrassed in the center of Montpellier. Otherwise, there are really safe places too

I honestly have come home many times in the middle of the night, used public transportation or anything, and I have never felt in danger. I don't know if it's me that gives off a vibe of "don't talk to me" on the bus or what, but I just feel like my city is calm and pretty problem-free. No noise, no crowds, nothing. Its population is rather on the "grandparents" age range. I know of 1 buildings' zone nearby that I've been told I'm "supposed" to avoid, but I live 2 minutes away by foot as it's where I take the bus, and have never had any kind of problem in the 5 years I've lived here (and I mean any). I still clutch my keys between my fingers when I come home at night "just in case", but really, what girl doesn't 🫠

I’ve been living in Paris for a year and a half, and overall I feel quite safe here. Sometimes on the metro, there can be people who are a bit annoying, like drunk people, but I’ve never experienced anything truly troubling. If I ever feel uncomfortable, I usually just move to another carriage. Even going out at night hasn’t made me feel unsafe or anxious. Of course, if you prefer, you can always choose alternatives like Uber instead of public transport. But from my experience, Paris is generally a safe city to live in, although like in any big city, petty theft such as pickpocketing can happen, so it’s important to stay attentive in order to avoid any problems.

There are a lot of lights, shops which are opened so lately and a lot of safety precaution. Policeman check a lot in “bad” areas and there always other people in your situation (walking alone in the dark), so there is a kind of solidarity.

I felt pretty safe, you just have to trust the locals about which places to avoid like Guillotière. The places I would recommend to check out are Le Parc de la Tête d'Or, the streets of Vieux-Lyon, the Fourvière cathedral, and the presqu'île. If you want to shop, the Part-Dieu mall or the avenue de la république are for you.

Hello! My name is Manon, I'm French, and I'm currently studying in Paris. I'm naturally very curious, which explains my presence on this app. I love traveling, meeting new landscapes, and meeting new people, despite my introverted nature. I plan to travel around Europe in my twenties and being hosted would be cool. For people who might ask me to be their host at this time. I don't live in Paris, (although I am there during the day) but in the suburbs with my family. I can only host people when my family is not there. Otherwise for anyone arriving in Paris and who does not have any acquaintances there, I would also be happy to make new friends in the capital :) I also visit many Parisian monuments and museums, which means I can recommend and help people visit Paris.
