I spend 7 weeks in Montpellier for a language course and it was so much fun! The city is beautiful and in my experience pretty safe (except for cat calling and some pickpockets). There are great daytrips possible to Marseille or Sête, which also are very pretty and popular. Or you can visit the Museums, beach or other attractions in Montpellier itself. As an 18 year old I partied a lot in the Clubs Panama (esp. the Latina floor/2nd floor) and Le Club. It’s definitely not cheap, but when has France ever been that…

La Rochelle is great because it blends intellect, creativity, and authenticity in a way few mid-sized cities manage. Nature is never far away, with trails, rivers, and forests minutes from downtown. The city is social and fun without being overwhelming, welcoming, evolving, and confident in exactly what it is.

Only issues I’ve encountered are with aggressive scammers and unlicensed vendors that get hostile when they hear “No.” Unfortunately, all of these incidents were with my child present. Safe otherwise.

I love Paris, a lot of rats sadly lol but overall I loved the attractions, the museums, the parks, the views and the architecture. I had a lot of options for activities. I met cool people. The locals were surprisingly nice. Some areas did feel sketchy but I was fine. The metro is a M A Z E. The more you use it the more you get used to it I feel like. I’ve been to bad, busy and confusing stations but I still didn’t run into any problems.

Paris is a stunning city with incredible corner houses and beautiful, large urban spaces, especially the towers and Notre Dame de Paris, as well as the Opera Garnier. In Paris, I was particularly impressed by delicacies such as foie gras, Parisian pastries and desserts. I would like to come back here again.

Montpellier is a very beautiful city, I lived there for 6 years, it's really a pleasant city with lots of beautiful things to visit. During the day it's fine, no problem, but at night there are some places where you need to be careful and maybe not be alone.

In general it's mainly safe , but be careful in some zones it could be really dangerous at night so I recommend you to stay with some people (friends) when you go out at night . The day there are some places that are really chill and nice sometimes you feel really safe and sometimes not really.

Literally no danger at all. Except if your allergic to trees 🌳🌲 It's a 2000 inhabitant village in the countryside. From there you can go hiking in the mountains. You can also visit Grenoble, the nearest "big" city.
Posted: February 6, 2026In general safe but like any others big cities can be thieves, pick pocket, drunks around touristic areas. Metro late at night in certains areas can be scary Mostly be aware of drunk and drugged people cause you never know how they react
Posted: February 6, 2026Rennes is very safe as I can see since the start of the year. I didn’t had any problems at all ! Sometimes I get scared but there are lights out mostly everywhere, so it is better. People there are kind !
