Is France Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

France is generally safe for solo female travelers. Like any other place in the world, it's important to exercise some precautions. Major cities like Paris and Lyon, are safe, but like any urban area, can have pockets of higher crime. It's advisable to stay vigilant, especially during late hours and in less crowded areas. Public transportation is reliable and mostly safe, although pickpocketing does happen, so you should keep an eye on your belongings. Overall, the majority of visits are trouble-free, and the locals are helpful to tourists. It's a culturally rich country with plenty to offer a solo female traveler.

Nice Côte d'Azur, Couple travel

Absolutely beautiful place, the beaches were very well maintained and the locals were friendly. There is a decent amount of tourists but it didn't feel swamped or too cramped. It's easy to visit Monaco which is well worth doing!

Paris, Solo travel

Paris, the city of romance and love! It was a very good experience since the city is built for tourists, there are wide choices of foods and beverages and activities to do, and you don’t need a lot of money to visit it honestly.

Strasbourg, Solo travel

I did a day trip. It was amazing. Go to the notre dam, take the ticket for the roof. Make the climb. Rest of the time spend exploring the city on food. Find hidden cafes with live music at night. Dance with locals

Paris, Family travel

Went in 2016/2017 when everything wasn't insanely expensive yet. Saw Paris and surrounding areas. What you would expect of Paris. Pretty places and no English speakers. Bad parts of town you should avoid if you can, looks sad and lots of homelessness. Busy in Paris and the metros and such but worth it to see the architecture there once. Maybe now anymore cus of homelessness and prices now but it used to be pretty to walk around in Paris.

Rennes

The city centre is fairly safe, although it can feel a bit dodgy on weekend evenings and Thursdays (there are a lot of people on the streets). Place Sainte Anne is the main area for going out to bars, so it can get quite lively. Avoid neighbourhoods far from the centre in the evening.

Caen

Overall Caen is safe, but I only live here for less than year, from what that I've heard just don't go in the Gare Scnf during the night very late :) if there is a lot of people with you that's okay I mean don't go alone.

Paris

Paris is relatively safe for a solo woman as there are always a lot of people in the streets. But avoid being alone in non-touristic places at night. I think the subway is rather safe at night too, you just need to avoid some specific areas. Unfortunately, as a tourist, you will probably be targeted by pickpockets, so be careful with your personal belongings. Nothing has ever happened to me or to my friends, even though I already lived in an arrondissement considered “not very safe” by some...

Annecy

Feels fairly safe but I would still avoid behind wandering alone at night. The street lights, depending on the area, can be rare and/or weak if there are some. Otherwise during day most of the areas are busy so probably not much will happen to you
