I’ve lived in Bordeaux for quite some time and never had any problems. I love going out at night and often come home late. I do feel a bit scared especially in small / dark streets because sometime drunk teenagers or guys can talk to you but it usually doesn’t last long. In you don’t answer and walk away they just stop. But that’s really in specific places. Overall Bordeaux is really a safe city to be

At night, it's important to be cautious about the places and neighborhoods you visit; it's better not to stray too far from the downtown streets when you're a woman alone. Otherwise, during the day, it's a very pleasant city to visit.
Posted: August 19, 2024Compared to other French cities I’ve only been catcalled once and except two areas around the train station and Les Capucins, i feel safe at night. I feel very good about people in my city. A lot of queer people and safe places to hang out.

The city is a safe place where you can travel alone and get to visit alot of place without any problems. However, like in every other city, there are some areas that should be avoided especially at night like the Capicin area

There are some shady areas I would avoid at night. Mostly Les Capucins in the city center. Lots of drug business going on in the city center, but it's mostly isolated people who are rarely aggressive to strangers. I work in a very shady street where people come to trade drugs and we've never had any problem with them being violent or aggressive. Basically, it's rare to get provoked. I would also be very careful at the train station, when it gets crowded, its the main area where people try to steal from you. Public transports are mostly safe, but stay vigilant.

Is not that dangerous like the big city like Paris! You can walk alone home after party but sometimes we can see groups of guys it can be dangerous because they can stole things or just laugh of you after that is ok
Posted: June 26, 2024Bordeaux is safe overall except the Saint michel side, in which you shouldnt be alone at night after 10pm. In right side of the Garonne aswell I wouldnt recommand being aline in cenon but in the center of the town its really safe and full of people

I think that Bordeaux is very safe. I live there since 10 years and didn't ever feel unsafe in town. But i would avoid some areas especially at night: les aubiers, grand parc, train station area, belcier.

Bordeaux is a really nice city, and really isn’t the city I felt unsafe (I’ve lived there for 6 years). There are some neighborhoods I would avoid during nights, but mostly on the surroundings. Otherwise, the city itself is pretty safe, not more or less than others. You just have to be a bit careful unfortunately.

Bordeaux is generally very safe. I feel perfectly comfortable taking public transport or walking alone late at night (I think buses are safer than the trams). But of course there are always exceptions, some neighborhoods are less safe especially in the city center around Place de la Victoire. Overall I don't think you should worry about getting assaulted or robbed and should stay as alert as you would in most other places :)

Bordeaux is safe during the daytime, but you have to be careful at night, especially in the old town. I was followed by four men to the station after sunset, which was just a short walk to the station.

Gorgeous city, like Paris but less stressful. Much more laid back city. Highly recommend where we stayed: Maison la Course, small boutique hotel with daily breakfast included (served on porcelain, crystal & silver), massages in house, lovely all female staff at the time we were there. To see: Monuments & Neighborhoods to See: Palais Gallien: Ruined 3rd century amphitheater from Roman city Burdigala Place de la Victoire: walk up Rue Sainte-Catherine, (detour east to le Musée d'Aquitaine, la Grosse Cloche - 15th century, bell 1775), (detour west to Cathédrale Saint-André, Place Gambetta & Porte Dijeaux), all the way north to le Grand Theatre (detour west to Notre Dame de Bordeaux, 11th century) Old Bordeaux: (15th century buildings) Porte Cailhau, Place de la Bourse, Basilica & Spire Saint-Michel (built 14-16th centuries), Place Saint-Pierre, Place du Palais, Pont de Pierre Chartrons: Rue Notre Dame (upscale street with antique shops, pastries, cafés), Église Saint-Louis des Chartrons (1880), Boulangerie “Au Pétrin Moissagais” (1785), Musée du Vin et du Négoce Jardin Public/ Quinconces: Monument aux Girondins Bacalan: La Cité du Vin

Hello, fellow lady travellers! I'm Marion, and I'm originally from Bordeaux but I've only moved back here a few years ago. I work in graphic design at the moment, though I'm always looking for opportunities in other creative jobs! I loveee travelling to bigger cities, and then also to more remote areas to go on hikes. Travelling alone is something I enjoy, it's not the same experience as travelling with friends and it really allows to meet lots of wonderful people, and live like a local. :)
