Bordeaux has gotten a bit less safe in recent years but in comparison to other big cities in Europe it’s still safe and comfortable as a solo female. It’s quite a nice place as everything is walkable there is a bit of catcalling but not more than elsewhere
Posted: October 1, 2025I think Bordeaux is a great city because you can do a lot of things, even in the night because there is always someone near in case. However, it's not because i had never experience a non safety situation that i can tell that it's safe 100 °/•

Bordeaux unfortunetely became this year "the most dangerous city" in France according to "ville-data". Source : https://ville-data.com/delinquance/classement-des-villes-les-plus-dangereuses-de-france I've lived in Bordeaux for 10 years now and I don't feel more unsecured here than in any other city. In any case, I live my life without wondering to much 🤷

Bordeaux is different from a neighbourhood to another. In some areas there are some pickpockets. At night some people are drunk so they can bother you sometimes. In the day everything is safe more of less

Bordeaux is a medium size city. It's very bourgeois but some places are less gentrified. If you want to go out it is quite safe, except for some very specific places. Overall it's a very safe place for woman, but you may have to be cautious depending on where your go out and what ypu intend to do.

I loved Bordeaux, we stayed at Eklo Hotel as a sustainable option and we really had a good time there. Also the breakfast was amazing! It is located next to the botanic park and Darwin Ecosystem, an alternative area in the city. We got there in public transport and the station is a bit far from the most interesting areas, so if you have a lot of things, I recommend taking a taxi from there. We were there for 5 days, so we took advantage of the Bordeaux City Card 72h that included most of the museums and access to public transport, including a little boat over the river, very useful to visit "La Cité du Vin" and "Basin des lumières". As we had some more time, we took a train to Libourne, a cozy smaller town where we enjoyed good food at a Medieval building "Le Zinc". In Bdx we had great food options, but the ones we recommend the most were the restaurant In Darwin Ecosystem, "Møna Bordeaux", "Umami ramen" and "Baud et Millet".
