Avignon in day is pretty safe, but I. the night starting from 8pm it become really big safe to walk alone there. also there's one of the worst neighborhood of France in this city, please don't go alone in monclar especially if you're a woman foreigner. every week there's a shooting happening there
Posted: August 18, 2025Avignon is a pretty city but it has a lot of downside. There's some crimes, there's a lot of drug selling. Even if you stay on the main streets you can get cat called and mugged etc... I don't recommend traveling to Avignon alone.

I would say Avignon is one of the safest city I have ever been to. Normally you don't have to worry about any cases happening but sometimes we tend to hear such news, one in a while I guess. But you can travel around freely without worrying as it's a beautiful city with mostly good people.

honestly, i’m just really paranoid, but pls be mindful of where u go, bc it rlly depends on where u are, it’s pretty safe (between the walls) but be careful with drunk homeless ppl, they can be quite dangerous and scary !
Posted: July 7, 2025although i’ve been wandering around all by myself, i’d rather be with someone else for my safety. i’ve already been whistled and stopped in the street by some guys who wanted to flirt, which i’m really not ok with, and i don’t want to be bothered. currently avignon is not super safe so the chances that something happens are still pretty low but please be safe and take care

Avignon is a pretty city thanks to its ramparts and its papal palace. I recommend doing the palace as a combined ticket with the famous Avignon bridge to save money. On the other hand, I do not recommend the combined ticket including the papal gardens, the plants look dehydrated and there is not much to see. What surprised me is that in the center of Avignon everything is calm but as soon as you arrive in the south of the city towards the central station, many drugged and drunk men are present in the streets from the afternoon until the night, which made me feel very unsafe. In addition, my hotel was on the outskirts of the city and to get there I had to go through neighborhoods where there were police interventions against drug trafficking, not very reassuring. Instead of spending all of your days in Avignon, I recommend the city on the other side of the Rhône, which is Villeneuve-lès-Avignon. It's much quieter, there are fewer people, and it looks much more picturesque. There, you can visit many monuments that offer views of the city, Avignon, and the Rhône. I'm thinking in particular of Fort Saint-André and the Bel Tower. In addition, the abbey gardens and the Chartreuse are very pleasant to visit when the weather is nice.
