I feel relatively safe, I've been followed only once in my 5 years living here (and it was after dark, around 2 am). Catcall happens kind of often, but I feel like it's the same in every city of France.
Posted: December 25, 2024Avignon is a rather calm city. Living in the city center, I don't really have to deal with the more sensitive neighborhoods, but like in all cities, there are places to avoid. For women, it's a matter of vigilance, it's mainly about knowing the areas where it's better not to go.

Avignon is a medium city size. I live in the historic center with my kids. They go alone at school so I am confident in their safety during the day. I feel safe also. At the night, it is ok but always be vigilant like in other cities. Do not go too far alone in the neighborhood.

Very beautiful city. Lots of tourists & I felt safe. Gorgeous weather. I ran around the city walls in the morning, about a 5km route. Great way to see the city. Food is very expensive but nice. The Popes Palace is deffo worth a visit, but don’t bother with the gardens. So much original artwork still in tact. Really amazing.
Posted: June 22, 2024Overall I felt very safe in Avignon. The reason I gave 4.5/5 instead of 5/5 is only because I was approached once or twice by tourist scammers on the street, but it was nothing aggressive and a simple “Non, merci.” Did the trick both times. Avignon is one of my fondest trips to date! I would recommend Avignon and the Provence / Vaucluse region of France to anyone!
