It's okey as long as you are not to far from de center or in known area, and a advise not being alone after 22h. There sometime drunk people which can scare, but i never see them violant, there are principaly in the transport are in the night. However most of the people in the city are students so you can probably find someone to help neer you.
Posted: May 28, 2025Montpellier can be a safe city if you avoid certain parts of Town, especially at night. You have to be cautions about being robbed or harrassed in the center of Montpellier. Otherwise, there are really safe places too
Posted: May 27, 2025I can say that from my experience as a student, and for the last 5 or 6 years, I've had only a few negative encounters. There are specific areas to avoid at certain times, but overall the city is very student friendly, very tourist friendly.
Posted: May 15, 2025I’ve been living here for almost a year, and I’ve never had any bad experiences. The city has been very pleasant and safe for me. The people here, especially, are very friendly and smiley. I hope none of us have to experience anything bad. As women, we always deserve to feel safe.🫶🏻

Montpellier is a small city in France and is feeling safe and easy in daylight with rarely upsetting mens. At night I always felt worried in any city I lived in, not specificaly in Montpellier, you always have to be carefull. In 3 years I have been catcalled in the streets multiple times but i am not in the best place but never been assaulted or robbed.
Posted: April 21, 2025I wouldn't say it's the most unsafe place there is, but there are some neighborhoods that I would avoid and after dark I wouldn't necessarily feel very safe walking alone. But overall it's a nice place and if you're aware of your surroundings and now what places to avoid it's okay :)

I stayed with local woman who hosted me in her beautiful apartment for one night. It was amazing experience. First we had a coffee and little chat in one of the cute coffee places and then we went to her place to have a dinner and a bit of wine. After that she gave me her keys so I could come back whenever I wanted. I connected with one more french girl, so I went for a drink with her. I came back slightly after 22 and next day I left early to be able to discover the city. I went to Musée Fabre and enjoyed walking around the old part of the city. I found it fascinating. This city definitely has a charm. I stayed there just 2 days but I felt in love with the place, thanks to my host as well. She gave me many tips and I was happy to listen to her stories.
Posted: June 4, 2025Experienced: February, 2023Montpellier is one of my favourite cities in France :) Travelling solo there was a lot of fun. I really appreciated that the city is close to the sea & that the people are really relaxed & open-minded.
