I think it depends a lot on the area you live in or commute to. For example, in areas like 5 2 7, where I commute, I feel very safe. But there are places like Guyatyr where I feel unsafe when I go. Of course, I've never had any experience with this before, and for example, I heard that there are areas where you don't feel safe.

It's a city where at night men have no manners anymore, so I prefer to avoid going out alone and prefer to go out with company. But during the day it's super safe, and that's really cool. It's a very beautiful city.
Posted: July 26, 2025I'd say it's moderate, a bit like Paris. In the evening there aren't many people except in Guillotière and Place des Terreaux where you have to be a bit careful, but I've lived in Lyon for 3 years and I've never been attacked, never had a big problem. The worst I've had is cars stopping, but if you make them understand that you really don't want them, or if you don't calculate with them, they end up turning back. It's the same with guys who stop you in the street, but most of the time they don't force you. IN ANY CASE , DON'T CALCULATE MEN. the most dangerous time is when you're alone with them, at home or in bed. ⚠️A guy only shows his true face in intimacy or when he feels confident.⚠️

I've lived in Lyon for 2 years now and I must stay, some places are safer than others. I'm not someone who goes out a lot but I do get back to my house pretty late and never have I been more than catcalled, and that happened two times in 2 years. I do hear bad stories coming out of "bad" places like the one I live in (one metro stop away from Lyon), but more often than not, it's just "settling of scores" rather than free violence.
Posted: July 12, 2025It's safe but as a big city there is a lot of crime if u check regularly and you be careful it's gonna be chill, but u have to stay focus cause things goes quickly here , in the dark be carefull choose the big avenue

Lyon is a great city but be careful when you take public transport, sometimes weird guys look at you, do not hesitate to ask help from other people and to lost him through the city. You can easily take a bike to move and it is safer than taking public transport.

I love Lyon! Probably one of my favourite places to travel in. I always felt safe, there’s so much to do, getting around is a breeze and the city is just STUNNING. Can’t recommend it enough and think it’s a great place to explore what French culture is all about

Felt recently safe, people were actually pretty nice. Food was great, we ate a bunch of food from the local weekend markets because we're broke. We did also eat at a fancier local place and the food was amazing. Lots of free historical places, museum was free for university students (we're grad students)
