Freiburg is a rather safe locación. Although there robs of bikes for example, it is more safe than other cites. In general Freiburg is a fairly small City with a lot of life in it. There are a lot of cultural activities to do. The arcitecture is pretty. But there are also a lot of places to calma down, such as green Parks and lakes. Not far from the City ther is the black forest, which offers even more stunning nature.

I think Freiburg is really safe, but it depends in which City Part you are, there are a few parks with many Junkies, so I wouldnt walk alone at night there but the City Center and Train Station are already Safe.

We are a quite small city with a lot of students, thats why I feel very safe 99% of the time!! You just have to take a good look on your bike, cause they get stolen in Freiburg very often ;) For everything else, there is nothing to worry about.
Posted: February 11, 2025Freiburg is a relativly safe city, that get quite quiet at night. The local are very gründlich and respectful. there night be a few areas youd like to avoid but overall you can walk freely, even when it’s dark outside

I think Freiburg is a pretty safe city to go to. Nevertheless, it is still common to receive sexual harassment and catcalling. I don’t think one is in grave danger all the time of being robbed, but still I would be careful about my surroundings, especially at night.
Posted: February 4, 2025In general it is safe to be there. But of course also in mostly safe cities, there are things happening sometimes. Sometimes in spots where you already know beforehand that i could lead to uncomfortable situations. Sometimes in spots where you wouldnt worry beforehand.
Posted: January 25, 2025It is a very safe city, which like every city has more recommendable areas and others less recommendable. But overall you are in good hands. Police is present, people are open and supportive and women are offered taking taxis after 10pm only paying 10€ no matter the lenght of the taxi ride. At least in 3 Taxi companies.
Posted: January 22, 2025Freiburg is a calm and nice place with lots of students and families. It is known as a green and hippie town, many people ride their bikes everywhere. Your bikes might get stolen tho, be careful with that. There are a few reports every now and then about weird and dangerous men who publish pictures of women bathing in the lakes or harrasse children in school. About ten years ago unfortunately there were two young women murdered by a stranger outside. So sometimes i am a bit scared and like in every bigger city i prefer to not walk alone at night. But i personally have only experienced a handful of catcalls and nothing more in 20 years of living in Freiburg.

In my experience Freiburg is a really safe city with a lot of friendly and helpful people. During night time there is a higher police presence especially around the central station. However uncomfortable situation can happen everywhere so I would suggest to always listen to your gut.
Posted: January 22, 2025Freiburg is a rather green/ alternative city. Not that that says everything about it. But overall the people are genuinely nice. I don't know as much about the night life but riding my bike I felt overall pretty safe night or day. I would recommend walking alone in the dark in the Stühlinger neighbourhood or by the river Dreisam though.
Posted: January 14, 2025I felt very welcomed by the sister that hosted me, that became a friend. I loved the forest all around and that is very accessible with public transportation. I really had great time. The market around the cathedral is lovely and you can find local interesting products. There is awareness about gluten free needs in most places I have had food and I found people lovely, relaxed and friendly.

Hi, I’m Isïa! I’m currently traveling through Central and south America with my sister, and our next stop is Costa Rica. From there, we’re heading to Panama and then planning to cross to Colombia via the river route. We’d love to meet new people along the way – whether it’s to explore together, hang out, or just have a good chat. If anyone’s up for showing us around or maybe even has a place to host us, let us know! We’re excited to connect! If you’d like to connect, share experiences, or try something together, feel free to reach out – I’d love to meet new people!
