Is Freiburg im Breisgau Safe for Women? Crime Rate in Freiburg im Breisgau

Freiburg is a rather green/ alternative city. Not that that says everything about it. But overall the people are genuinely nice. I don't know as much about the night life but riding my bike I felt overall pretty safe night or day. I would recommend walking alone in the dark in the Stühlinger neighbourhood or by the river Dreisam though.

A really lovely city, with many open mindet people. Most of the people welcome foreigners very good and are friendly. Always felt safe walking down the street. Also being out for party is fine and safe most of the time.

I think its pretty Safe especially in the Town!! Anyhow you should watch out as a Woman and dont be alone at night. Freiburg is one of the Citys i feel the safest in Germany! I also recommend the "Frauen Taxi" at night

It’s okay, but be careful with men. You can stay outside alone, but it’s always better to talk to women because they can guide you around the city safely and without having bad intentions. It’s like in other city’s.

Freiburg is a beautiful City in which you feel very safe. It depends in which area you are staying and walking! At night in our city center you feel safe nearly everywhere. There is also a night taxi only for female passengers! Highly recommended, it’s cheap and safe.

I feel very safe. There are a few small areas you better avoid at night, like the Columbipark, or the Stühlinger Kirchplatz. That is very managable though, and dispite that I think Freiburg is a greatest safe city

If you are a student and know the places that are safe (for example Unibibliothek or in general the university) that is good! Many alternative spaces where i feel safe but in the dark on the street (that are sometimes lonely here) men are the same everywhere. So be careful!

Freiburg is a lovely city near the Black Forest. It's not too big, and you can move freely everywhere in the city. It's super safe using public transport and walking alone as a woman. At night, you should be a bit more aware, but in general, it's a very safe city. You don't have to worry about being robbed or anything similar.

I would say Freiburg is one of the safest places I‘ve seen. You can obviously never feel a 100% safe as a woman unfortunately but Freiburg is making good efforts - e.g. with the night cabs only for women and I feel as safe as I can walking around alone, also during the night.

Freiburg is a safe city. Of course, there are some kinds of weird people, but all in all, it's safe. Police officers patrol the city at night, and security is present at the main station.

Solo travel

I felt very welcomed by the sister that hosted me, that became a friend. I loved the forest all around and that is very accessible with public transportation. I really had great time. The market around the cathedral is lovely and you can find local interesting products. There is awareness about gluten free needs in most places I have had food and I found people lovely, relaxed and friendly.
