In Hamburg, I’m not afraid to be out and about alone as a woman. However, I think there are some areas you should avoid. Typically, around the main train station or the Reeperbahn. These are common hotspots for parties and drugs, and the people there are, of course, a bit different. Otherwise, in other tourist spots or trendy neighborhoods, I feel very comfortable. Even when I’m traveling by bus or train, I usually feel comfortable. Sometimes there are situations that are a bit strange or uncomfortable, like when you’re approached in a weird way, often by men. However, my experience has been that other people are very supportive, and there’s a lot of awareness, especially among young people, to help women who are traveling alone. Still, you need to be careful in tourist spots to avoid being pickpocketed. That can easily happen because it’s often so crowded that you don’t notice everything, and suddenly your wallet or phone is gone. However, if you keep everything close at hand or in a secure place, like an inside pocket of your jacket, it’s not a problem. I’ve been living here for seven years, and it has never happened to me.

Overall it’s a safe city, there is not really pickpocketing, but of course u have to take care and watch out, but I always felt safe, even to go to bars or going out to party only by myself.

Very save. Close to the central station are lots of drunks and some crack heads but in general Hamburg is very safe. There are some quarters like steilshoop or wilhelmpsburg. In these areas there a lots of different cultures and lots of tension. But that comes down to just some people.
Posted: January 4, 2025It’s overall safe. There’s no need to worry about things like mugging. Transportation is safe as well. You can walk around at night without having to worry about anything. Taxi driving is safe as well.

My first stop was reeperbahn. It is so scary. Everyone is drunk or high. There are lots of sex shops and huge sex houses. Someone laughs out loud, someone pees around, someone begs for money, lots of homeless freakies scream aloud, someone lost their pants. No, it doesn't feel safe in any way. Am sorry. Is hamburg all like that or what?

Some areas are really safe and some areas are a little shady. I've never felt unsafe taking public transportation. Generally it's a pretty safe place. Hbf is a bit weird at night and very early morning
Posted: December 31, 2024Never felt unsafe in Hamburg. Everybody is kind and respectful, of course in some departments you do not feel as safe as in others, but in general it is totally fine! For example the reeperbahn, which is the street for partying it can happen that you feel unsafe but not more than in other German cities when partying.
Posted: December 29, 2024Very safe! If you know where you should walk alone past midnight, its very safe! I never had an incident as a woman. You might not walk alone around „St. Pauli“ as a woman, but thats it. I live i a very new neighborhood, with a lot of tourists and familys
Posted: December 29, 2024All in all, it is safe, but as in any big city, you should use common sense in crowded places, especially at night, in the city center and at the main train station. If there are sketchy people, just try to ignore them.

It depends on where you are and at what time - but overall is hamburg a quite safe city. my main areas are sternschanze and altona, and these districts especially are very open and tolerant. if you wanna experience the famous „reeperbahn“, it’s not really safe there - a lot of tourists and many people, experienced a lot of sexual harassment there, as well as many homeless and drug addicted people. so dont go there alone at night or get home safe via a taxi.

I felt safe, i just had to watch out on the streets with clubs. I would recommend going to Kunsthalle museum and if you like going out then Reeperbahn. My restaurant recommendation is block house. I stayed at my sister’s so she drove me around but there is local bus and a train.
Posted: January 1, 2025We were in Hamburg. The city has many activities. Like take a boat trip. I was at the musical "Harry Potter and the cursed chıld". The city library is huge. In the basement, used/old books, audio books, films and games are sold at a reasonable price.
