Hamburg feels pretty safe for women, but like in any big city, you’ve got to stay a bit aware. Public transport is totally fine, and most areas are chill, even at night, though spots like the Reeperbahn can get sketchy with all the drunk people. Catcalling is definitely a thing—way too much, honestly—but I’ve never felt in real danger. Violent crime isn’t a huge problem, but tampering with drinks in clubs is something to watch out for. Overall, as long as you use common sense, Hamburg is a good place to be as a woman.
Posted: March 31, 2025All in all, Hamburg is a very safe place. However, as anywhere in the world, being a woman (or non-binary, transgender, just in general not-hetero-male person) it is possible to hearing some comments or being harrassed, especially by cis-men in the evenings or at night. So sometimes that feels a bit annoying or unsafe, but usually people around you are alert and step in or police will be there if anything major happens.
Posted: March 27, 2025Around the Main Station it can get a bit creepy at night. But if you are with a Group or simply trust your gut feeling I would say you are good! Of course its always still important to stay careful and keep your eyes open as a solo female traveler:)
Posted: March 25, 2025Generally pretty safe, especially during the day. At night there can be quite a few sketchy areas, especially around the central train station and Reeperbahn. Been living here for close to two years and never been harassed, but definitely felt a bit unsafe at night around the areas I mentioned.
Posted: March 20, 2025Hamburg is very safe overall. The public Transport in the Center of hamburg is sometimes not the best Option. But I do feel very safe when I am walking down the Street at night time. You dont have to fear getting attacked.
Posted: March 14, 2025It really depends on the part of Hamburg, but where people just live I feel very safe. In parts like Reeperbahn or Sternschanze in the night I don’t feel well beeing alone as a woman. But all in all it is much better than in many other places.
Posted: March 12, 2025Living in Hamburg my whole life I rarely experienced uncomfortable situations with strangers. I lightly depends on the area, if you are around the main party areas drunk people are more likely to overstep boundaries and create uncomfortable situations.
Posted: March 10, 2025The safety of the city depends a lot on what area you are in. But I would advise you to keep an eye on your things and not to walk alone in the dark too much. It feels especially unsafe on Friday evenings and Saturdays, as there are a lot of drunk people in the city and demonstrations are taking place.
Posted: March 9, 2025The safe level depends on the quarter you are in. St. Pauli, St. Georg, Harburg are not great places when you are alone at night. But public transport is good and safe. Be on guard, and everything is okay. I have lived here for three years and due to my job I am going often after midnight home and never happened something to me. I'm am not more worried than I any other city.

I think it is very safe, of course this depends if it is in the night or daytime. You have to be careful in some areas as e.g. walking alone at night near Reeperbahn -but I have also done it, men can be really exhausting though.

I felt safe, i just had to watch out on the streets with clubs. I would recommend going to Kunsthalle museum and if you like going out then Reeperbahn. My restaurant recommendation is block house. I stayed at my sister’s so she drove me around but there is local bus and a train.
Posted: January 1, 2025We were in Hamburg. The city has many activities. Like take a boat trip. I was at the musical "Harry Potter and the cursed chıld". The city library is huge. In the basement, used/old books, audio books, films and games are sold at a reasonable price.
