I’ve been living here for 5 years and I feel very safe! I am always paying attention as I would anywhere in the world but I never faced any encounters. I do have friends that have been followed in the street or in the metro, late at night in the weekends. So like anywhere in the world as a woman we have risks and need to be aware, but in general I feel very safe.
Posted: October 27, 2024Experience of a white cis women with an average/ sporty body: Overall - I feel quite safe in Hamburg compared to other cities and other countries. Depending on the district and daytime it varies. Always cautious around night time. I avoid some streets & parks but only when it’s dark. I always avoid some side streets around Reeperbahn and some along the river “Elbe”. Like everywhere else be careful around party areas no matter on the street or public transportation. (Harassment & robbery) I walk alone during night time and also take public transportation but am always scaning my surrounding. During the day I have never felt unsafe. I barely experienced harassment but don’t take it as representable. Some friends of me can unfortunately tell otherwise.

Very safe! But I lived in Berlin also for 5 years. In General Germany is very safe. I will miss the security, I never get cat alles in the public spaces. I enjoy rights and a lot of freedom. I can go alone at all times.
Posted: October 3, 2024It's a pretty safe place! Especially at day time.you can roam around freely and not worry much. At night time there is a big party area where when people get too drunk I would be careful taking care of your belongings. The same goes for crowded places or subways. Just keep an eye out but otherwise no need to worry.
Posted: October 2, 2024Hamburg is really overcrowded since the last 10 years. Robbing has become usual. Bikes are stolen every day. People grab in your jacket pocket to steal your purse or phone. The police is not really able to make the city secure and is not able to find the thiefs cause of the hard bureaucratic system. Be extra careful.
Posted: September 21, 2024The city is generally safe but there are unfortunately pickpockets in public transportation and robbery in general (bikes, luggage, bags, wallets). There are also districts where they could be/feel less safer than others especially at night
Posted: August 26, 2024Hamburg is overall a pretty safe city. Of course, there are some places you don’t want to be in the dark and alone, and sometimes, you have to actively ignore people who catcall you, but I’ve never experienced someone who tried to harm me. They usually only talk to you if they need food or money for you and when you decline, they don’t harass you
Posted: August 25, 2024Hamburg is a pretty safe city. I can’t think of any areas that you absolutely shouldn’t go. Maybe don’t hang around the central station at night time more than necessary but I myself never had problems even at night time.

In General it’s very safe! But anyway you should always be careful, especially when ist dark and you are alone. I don’t know a lot stories where really has happened something bad, but you never know. So be aware that nobody is following you. When you are partying and you are drunk be aware of robbers, because they are profiting of you drunk woman.

I personally don't feel super comfortable walking around alone in Hamburg after dark. During the day it's completely fine tho as long as you don't walk any creepy places. That is however just my personal gut feeling. There's definitely safer places, as there is a problem with drugs and poverty especially around the train stations, but it's not like crime is crazy in Hamburg. Just listen to your gut and stay in more crowded places maybe.

I felt most of the time safe. Around the trainstations in Hamburg it is not that safe. Especially at Hauptbahnhof. I liked the Bunker. There you can go up for free and have a beautiful view over the city. Additionally I was in "Naschcafé" which i can recommend. The food there is really good. Also "Falafelprinz" at Schanze. You can get there cheap Falafelwraps. If you like to go into a museum, you should try "Deichtorhallen" or "Kunst und Gewerbe". All in all, it was a really nice trip.
Posted: August 6, 2024Discovering Hamburg for the first time. It is an atypical city, very interesting with several aspects. I really enjoyed walking along the river and taking the public boat that allows you to discover the city. The architecture of the city as well as its monuments and churches are magnificent. I recommend spending at least 2 days there and if you are lucky with beautiful sunshine. Concerning the food, you absolutely have to try a fish sandwich on the port. On the other hand, it is a city that can be dangerous for a girl alone. Especially the area next to the station.
