I would say that Potsdam is a very safe city. Of course, as a young girl you sometimes feel uncomfortable, but I still move around alone at night without fear. Sometimes you hear strange comments, but overall it's definitely okay.
Posted: June 2, 2025Potsdam is pretty safe as I experienced it now for over 19 years. Of course it doesn’t mean no crimes happen here at all, but I haven’t been a victim of any. It’s not a city where you have to be concerned about your safety or your personal stuff all the time, also because it’s as Berlin or other cities where many tourists are.

In my experience, Potsdam is a very safe city. I lived here all my life and never encountered any kind of crime. In most parts of the city, I feel really safe walking alone at night. Public transportation is available until the early morning hours and apart from a drunk person here and there, feels safe as well.
Posted: April 19, 2025It’s safe in comparison, but if course at night you have to be careful. But everyday harassment like catcalling is pretty low. I personally never experienced any dangerous situations in the city, but in the villages around it is more.
Posted: March 18, 2025I think Potsdam is relatively safe. You should stay away from some areas but I always feel safe during the day. I've only been spoken to strangely twice in public transport in more than 10 years and it was always easy to quickly leave the situation.
Posted: January 6, 2025Potsdam is a very safe and open minded city. Even though the people not always seem overly friendly, they are happy to help if you ask them kindly. Public transport is safe to use at any time day and night. Although there are places you should not be at as a solo travelling woman especially at night, but those are places you're normally not going to be interested in as a tourist.
Posted: January 1, 2025Just got back from Potsdam and it was a total vibe. Started at Sanssouci Palace — it’s like a real-life fairy tale, but with more fancy gardens and less magic. The wind had other plans for my hair, though. Then I checked out the Dutch Quarter, which felt like Amsterdam’s cuter cousin. Had some ridiculously strong coffee at a cozy café and just soaked it all in. Definitely a day well spent!
Posted: March 16, 2025Experienced: March, 2025Hi, went there by train! Had a student Ticket so ist was pretty cheap, would recommend the Deutschland Ticket (49 €/month of Public transport). It's a little annoying that you have to go to Berlin first to go to Potsdam. I went there and found cool artgroups and courses. People were open and I stayed at a friends place. I belive hotels and restaurants are quite pricey there. Keep in mind that there's a time in the night when it's not so easy to go back to Berlin as the busses and trains take breaks. Busses weren't as reliable-plan in extra time!
