i never had any situations where i wasn’t safe or was in danger. But i wouldn’t recommend being alone at nights at train stations just in general. police is always train station security or police is always available ä

I have walked alone alone at night and it was totally okay. Off course it is much better walking around when you can find some people still on the street but it is fine anyway. As I am from a country where it is not safe at all, I have this issue with safety and always avoid empty and to dark areas.
Posted: September 6, 2024Very open minded and safe German city. Especially for queer people. Maybe avoid going to the metro tunnel „Appellhofplatz“ and the stairs to the bus station at „Neumarkt“ during the night. But otherwise you’re fine.
Posted: August 1, 2024I would say that cologne is pretty safe. You can walk around at night and go to bars alone, also as a woman. There are some places that I would recommend to avoid at night like ebertplatz and Wiener Platz. And that goes for everyone, no matter the gender. But I regularly walk home from the bar or the club in the middle of the night, and never felt unsafe. But be aware of pickpockers especially in the more touristy areas.
Posted: July 31, 2024Cologne is as safe as any other German or western city. If you're as cautious as in other big cities you'll be fine. In Karneval season there are a lot of drunk people, especially in the city centre and the left side of Cologne.

Cologne is overall a safe city. As in other places you should be aware of your important possessions when in big crowds, overcrowded transports and tourists location. Right outside the central station I believe is where I have felt most uncomfortable, my advise if you really want to see the dome is just not to stay standing in one place alone but to keep walking until you are no longer in front of the station and more in front of the dome, don’t seat on the stairs and watch your stuff at all time. You can also have a lot of encounters with drug addicts all around the city center and I understand that this can be triggering/uncomfortable for many people, if this is the case I would try to avoid this metro stops: Appellhofplatz, Friesenplatz, Ebertplatz, Wiener Platz
Posted: June 1, 2024It’s pretty safe for everyone. as a woman, you can take public transport at night. You can walk alone at night. You don’t have to worry about your safety. Also, it’s an international city. You will find many foreigners here from almost all of the countries.
Posted: May 17, 2024not the most beautiful city by architecture but by people and life. good club scene and nice cafes, bars, bistros and shops everywhere. huge parks welcome you and your "wegbier" on sunny days. beer glasses might be small but humor is huge in cologne.

Cologne is one of the biggest and most lgbt friendly city in Germany. It is very safe for female solo travellers. But they are, just like in every big cities, some homeless and drugs/alcohol issues. It is also a city with lot of parties. At night, you still have to be cautious.
Posted: May 7, 2024Cologne is generally pretty safe. I'm happy to walk around in the city center pretty much any time of day, but some areas especially east of the Rhine can get a bit uncomfortable after dark, and I try to avoid isolated tram/bus stops at night. During big events like Karneval and football matches, you get big crowds and lots of drunk people, so sexual harassment is very common. There are pickpockets in the more touristy areas, but muggings are very rare. Cologne is a very inclusive city, so non-white/LGBTQ+ people don't have a much higher risk.

Yes, it was a nice experience. I lived in Bonn, but I used to travel to Cologne. It was for a trip, and I visited the harbor bridge. It was already quite nice and had a lot of restaurants that matched my taste, so I very much loved the food. I really liked it, and I look forward to visiting it again officially. It was an unplanned trip because it was due to business. I had one more day, which I used to explore Cologne.
Posted: September 6, 2024Experienced: September, 2023I had a good time in Cologne with a lot of vegan food and nice people. The restaurant Zarathustra was really great experience and I would recommend it to everyone who visits the city. They also have a place which sells vegan spaghetti ice cream which is want to try the next time staying there.

Hi, I'm Maja! I'm currently finishing my Master's degree in Political Science and Philosophy (which takes most of my time), but when I'm not doing that I like doing outdoor sports (sailing, hiking, mountainbiking, rock climbing,...), going to concerts (everything from Indie to Punk), bars or pubs, and art exhibitions (I'm open to every kind of exhibition, but you will have to deal with my comments (i like to think I'm funny, my friends are undecided)).
