Cologne is mostly a safe place. However, there is especially in summer a high risk of getting catcalled by men when just walking on the streets. It gets riskier at dawn. When going to the center, the risk of meeting pickpockets gets higher. Cologne also has a problem with addicted people sleeping and consuming on the streets or at subway stations.
Posted: February 14, 2025As in most big cities in Germany I feel pretty safe. There is definately a lot more catcalling than in smaller cities, there are some spots to avoid in the dark but mostly because it just makes me uncomfortable and keeping your phone and wallet close in tourist spots is obvious Inthink but that's about it.

I lived in cologne for 3 years now and it was hard to adjust in the beginning. It’s unfortunately not very clean and scenic on the streets. Especially on the weekends and holidays or carnival there’s some trashing and drinking problems. But people are usually friendly and willing to help

It's quite safe even though it's a big City. Of course you should stay away from some areas, but there are not so many so it should be alright. I'm not afraid to walk around by night here. Public transportation is safe as well.

At day it’s okey especially when you are not alone. But at night you really have a lot of risks. The most biggest risks is being ripped off bc of how much people it is in transport and in central also. And a lot of alcoholics und drug addict in a subway.
Posted: January 18, 2025Cologne is really safe i m here for one year and nothing happened to me. The city is very safe even in night nothing happens. No robbery no other thing and i have never heard from a friend of such situations
Posted: January 14, 2025It's Fels like moderately safe environment to me. Still as a woman living in the patriarchy I have safety mechanisms in place while walking home and some areas are more sketchy than others, you have the typical not nice clubbing spaces and all that Cat calling is a thing especially on the right site of the river, but in comparison I've had way worse in other german cities.

The people in Cologne are amazing! Everyone is very helpful and wants you to feel good. Public transport at night can be sometimes weird if you are leaving at the wrong tram stations. But you can go with bike everywhere (I do) to not depend on public transportation. We also have bike rentals all over the city via app!

cologne is a queer city and a student city so mostly the culture is very open, especially for a german city. men unfortunately still exist lol and it is a big city so the general safety measures still apply.
Posted: January 10, 2025People in Cologne are usually a very friendly and open-minded bunch who are helpful and kind to tourists. If you’re not into partying and stumbling into loud and drunk people (especially on weekends) I recommend avoiding the areas “Die Ringe” which is the area around Friesenplatz and Rudolfplatz and also around Zülpicher Platz. Cologne is very safe for the LGBTQ community.

It was my first time doing a solo trip. I felt pretty safe considering the fact that the city itself has free wifi and you can find an english speaker everywhere in the city. The only thing that out me off was the food options. Maybe I couldn't find something good but everything was pretty bland, especially after trying amazing food all around in my Paris trip.
Posted: February 10, 2025Experienced: November, 2024my experience cologne was really nice, i went for the concert there, and felt quite safe throughout the day, though maybe not as much during the night time. the transportation was okay, though there were some problems with bus, which made me amost miss my train

Hi, my name's Inas. I'm 21 years old and currently live in Cologne, where I'm pursuing a law degree at the University of Cologne. I'm yazidi, originally from Northern Iraq, so I speak Kurdish as my mother tongue. I grew up in a community-centric society, so I appreciate community values a lot, which for me basically means taking care of each other. That's what this app is promoting, so that along with my wish to see new places and meet new people is why I'm on it. I'm very social and get along with most people. It's important to me though that the people around me are open-minded and tolerant, especially when it comes to human rights (which include the right of immigrants and LGBTQIA+). Right now, I live in a shared apartment at the heart of Cologne (Germany). Unfortunately, my room (and my bed) are quite small but if you feel comfortable enough sleeping on a mattress in my room, then you're welcome to stay over.

I am trying more solo traveling and am excited to meet new people and discover places from a local point of view. The hidden and unpopular spots are my favorites.
