One of the safest places I‘ve been to. But ofc even here I experience catcalling regularly. There are places safer than others in here but if you stay around ehrenfeld, Südstadt, Lindenthal, Rodenkirchen you will be fine. Try to avoid „Ebertplatz“. Germany is a safe place compared to others.
Posted: July 8, 2025It is usually safe except for the drug addicts at several locations like Neumarkt and Kalk. They usually don't do anything to you, but it just feels scary. In Kalk, there are chances of robbery, so stay safe or avoid traveling after dark there

Cologne is safe if you stay in well lit areas. But at many areas there are many drunk people at night and many homeless and drug addicts. The police are there quickly when you are afraid and there is a phone number where you can call and they accompany you on the phone until you are at home.

I never had any serious incidents in the city. The public transportation is safe. Going out late always felt safe. Cologne has many homeless people, so you will see them everywhere but I never experienced anything uncomfortable. At the weekend you may meet some drunk people that might behave inappropriately. Catcalling happens quite often, especially in summer when riding a bike.
Posted: June 7, 2025cologne is a very friendly city, the people are really nice and always helpful. it’s not a ‚polite‘ vibe, they just start to talk to you randomly, you can always ask for help or meet new friends :))))
Posted: June 1, 2025In the heart of Cologne are many homeless people. You don‘t have to worry about the homeless people as they just want money. If you can, try avoiding eye contact. In the past few years many homeless people started taking drugs. Well they took drugs before but not that many took them. Now it‘s all over Neumarkt (where you go to when you want to buy clothes or eat nice food). If you feel uncomfortable, police is always near you. Because some homeless people often get into fights. But you don‘t have to worry about that. Overall I‘ve been never harassed.

Cologne is a very touristy city. Consider your travel date if you want to avoid the crowds. During my short one-day trip, I visited the Lindt Chocolate Museum, the Cologne Cathedral, which you can't miss, and the shopping streets. I recommend heading away from the city center if you want to feel more immersed in the city.
Posted: May 30, 2025Experienced: April, 2025For me it was a little difficult, sometimes I felt alone and had no one to go out with, there aren't that many things to do and they don't have festivals or as much street music as I expected there would be, the people are friendly but they don't make much of an effort to include you, unfortunately the first day I arrived I had a very persistent experience in terms of xenophobia but nothing went wrong.
