This little city was really charming. I really liked the market and the heart warming cakes. I’ve been welcomed freely by a woman thanks to “Couchsurfing” who was used to travel alone too. I was surprised by her big heart. We talked a lot that night, she gave me confidence with only few words. She prepared me food in advance and offered me a lunch for the next day (even if I was leaving this exact day). She even payed the drink… her kindness was melting my heart. I asked her why did she do all those things for me, and she answered “If only you could know what people gave to me, I have to return the favour.”
Posted: October 28, 2025Experienced: March, 2025I felt very welcomed by the sister that hosted me, that became a friend. I loved the forest all around and that is very accessible with public transportation. I really had great time. The market around the cathedral is lovely and you can find local interesting products. There is awareness about gluten free needs in most places I have had food and I found people lovely, relaxed and friendly.

One of the safest cuties in Germany. Very friendly and welcoming . Most young people can speak other languages including English and French. In summer we have the best weather. Nature surrounds the city.
Posted: November 9, 2025I’ve been living there for more than eight years, and I usually feel very safe during daytime and at night it’s pretty easy as well. You can rent bikes which i prefer during nighttime for transport, but taking the tram should be alright as well.

Freiburg im Breisgau, located in the South of Germany, is generally a very safe city. during the day, I feel safe walking everywhere, during night it's perfectly possible to walk home alone, if you stick to the streets with light (almost every street has street lights)
