I felt very welcomed by the sister that hosted me, that became a friend. I loved the forest all around and that is very accessible with public transportation. I really had great time. The market around the cathedral is lovely and you can find local interesting products. There is awareness about gluten free needs in most places I have had food and I found people lovely, relaxed and friendly.

Freiburg im Breisgau is a very safe city in my experience. Especially in international comparison, I feel I can walk around the city safely, and even at night I am only slightly worried, although personally I never had a negative experience there. The most common crime in Freiburg is probably bike theft, so make sure to properly lock your bike in case you are using one.
Posted: March 16, 2025Hi, I come from Freiburg and for me it’s a really nice city! You should not be in the Stühlinger Park or at the Dreisam in the night time, but the rest of the city is really save! :) I hope you spend a nice time in this city!

Hi, my name is Alina, I am German, but have also lived in California and Spain before. At the moment I study Life Sciences in Freiburg. I believe that cultural exchange is the best way to travel and have met many people I love dearly when traveling. I live in a flatshare, meaning if all of my roommates are there which is usually the case, hosting could be difficult as there are no free rooms.
