I think the level of safety in Chemnitz really depends on where you are. In the city center, I don’t feel very safe, especially in the evenings or when it’s dark. In some areas, there are often groups of men standing around who catcall or approach you. I would tend to avoid the city center and Sonnenberg, especially at night. However, the further you go towards the outskirts, the quieter and safer it feels, at least in my opinion. I feel much more comfortable and at ease in those areas.
Posted: November 18, 2024Obviously it is a bit scary to be outside in the dark in every city but it's more my anxiety than experience speaking. Nothing bad happend to me here or anyone I know but I'd stay away from parks or places like that at night (in general) just because there is a chance that there are people on drugs.
Posted: October 24, 2024I feel like Chemnitz getting better. But a few years ago I hadn’t such a good feeling. I wouldn’t go out at the dark still. There are many police officers who drive around. And make sure everyone is ok. But still I feel a bit unsafe and I’m happy to leave chemnitz again.
Posted: August 10, 2024Chemnitz is a nice and quiet place. Public transportation is also good with trams and buses.I never experienced any harassment from anyone here. There might be some people, I think it’s the same every where.. and we should be aware but all total it’s safe in here to travel
Posted: June 30, 2024It ia a safe place but somwtimes walking alone in the center at night is scary. You can take public transport safely. Everything closes at 8 pm thereafter the city is empty make you feel like a ghost walking alone.
Posted: May 13, 2024Walking through the city during the day is no problem at all. Something that happens more often, however, are men who honk at you from the car or whistle after you. Harassing looks or comments are also unfortunately normal in the city centre, for example. If I have to move around the city centre at night, I try to do so accompanied by someone, on my bike or on a scooter (which you can hire 24/7 anywhere in the city). I feel safer that way. I've also walked through the city alone at night a few times. Nothing has happened to me personally so far, but a friend told me about scary situations in which she was followed by a car, for example. I have also heard that people have been robbed in the Bernsdorf neighbourhood. Therefore, I would avoid walking alone and only go out in company or, for example, by bike on well-lit streets.

Germany
the city center is pretty cool. it’s my hometown but i wouldn’t choose to live there. but for a small vacation it’s pretty cool. it’s not too big, not to small. you can do many cool things. it’s pretty easy to find a good restaurant
