Sassnitz is a very safe place to live or travel to. Most locals don’t speak English and some tend to be a little bit rude to strangers/ tourists. I have grown up there for 18 years and never have I been assaulted, mugged or anything alike. You need to be careful on the cliffs though; a lot of tourists walk to close to the edge and die, so please be careful. :)
