Hi, went there by train! Had a student Ticket so ist was pretty cheap, would recommend the Deutschland Ticket (49 €/month of Public transport). It's a little annoying that you have to go to Berlin first to go to Potsdam. I went there and found cool artgroups and courses. People were open and I stayed at a friends place. I belive hotels and restaurants are quite pricey there. Keep in mind that there's a time in the night when it's not so easy to go back to Berlin as the busses and trains take breaks. Busses weren't as reliable-plan in extra time!

Depending on the exact location, but overall pretty safe. There are drunk men in the public Transport at night sometimes, who Stare at you or say weird stuff and there might be catcalling in the streets. And there are a few pretty conservative people, that might stare at you if you're queer, but there's also a big queer community in Potsdam
