It is a very calm and quiet city. Besides the sadly normal catcalls nothing ever happened to me and I feel totally safe walking in the city at night, also because the city center is very small and therefore easy to overview
Posted: June 7, 2025It's pretty safe. Most of the crimes happen in the city or between people who know each other. There have recently been a few violent crimes during the night which all happened in the city center. We have lots of stuff on our terrace, which is accessible from the outside and nothings ever been stolen.

Oldenburg is a really cute, safe and lovely student city and the safest place I ever lived at (I’m kinda commute from Bremen to Oldenburg and used to stay longer in multiple states of the US ), very recommended !

I have never experienced a situation, in which I felt uncomfortable. Once this changes, I will give an update. I feel safe walking alone at night and I would not be worried if a friend told me they leave the front door unlocked or even open. However, that is only my personal experience.

It’s a small city with a lot of students living there and a really nice atmosphere. This it is pretty safe for everyone, including women to travel to! Of course I’m always aware of my surroundings, but I walk my dog after dark every day and after partying I ride my bike back home without being worried :)

Hey I’m Jana :) I’ve been traveling solo a lot during the last years and I totally love it and definitely want to be ‘free’ while traveling. But what I love even more is meeting people from the country I’m traveling to :) I have some amazing friendships because of my travels and I would love to keep on meeting new amazing people! 🪼

Hey, I'm Lu :) I moved to Oldenburg (Germany) to do my education at the theatre. I really enjoy getting to know new people and places, I spend a lot of time in cafés, record and bookshops, fleamarkets and on concerts and get excited about anything related to art
