It really depends on the area you’re in. Areas you shouldn’t travel to alone as a woman especially in the dark are: Mettenhof and Gaarden. Other than that I’d say it’s the same to most German cities.

I would say Kiel is a safe City over all. The police and other people are friendly and happy to help you, from what I experienced! At night I would avoid to hang out near the train station since there are some homeless people and drug addicts living there. The public transport is pretty safe but I would still stay aware of you surroundings.
Posted: April 10, 2025Like in most cities the safety in Kiel depends on the location. I don't like being near the trainstashion at night, but to me it feels still much saver than some big cities in germany. I overall feel safe in Kiel

Kiel is a very safe town, there are only a few quarters where the crime rate is higher (I don't live in one of them). Generally bikes get stolen a lot but walking around you feel very safe day and night.

I usually feel very safe in Kiel even during night time. Around the city center (main train station) are of course always some weird people but even cat calling happens to me very rarely. I use bus and train almost everyday and my experience has been very positive to far!
Posted: March 15, 2025I would say it’s very safe for a city this size. Of course there is crime but if you are in the normal areas you’re safe. The east of the fjord is a bit sketchier, but nothing to crazy. Since the bubble of left winged people is biggest there is little to worry about.

Kiel is a big city with a lot of students, travelers and navy soldiers so I would say you don‘t have to worry as much for your safety. I think harbour cities are always safer than inland cities, but that can just be my feeling. As in every city there are places to avoid but in Overall I would Call Kiel a Safe City
Posted: March 9, 2025it’s really chill and we have a lot of nice people! a visit here is definitely safe and you should do it we have a lot of beautiful places!!! i experienced just a few catcalls but nothing more. but u should always be careful
Posted: February 19, 2025This City is overall very safe. There are many young students and it is busy considering the city is relatively small. But like in any other city I would be carefull and probably avoid to be alone in the dark. Have a pleasant stay here:)
Posted: January 9, 2025I wouldn't describe Kiel as a dangerous city. For it's size it's level of danger is moderate. There are incidents happening just like in every other city. The people are very friendly and always helpful. That's why I'm always feeling safe no matter if day or night. Also we have a strong police presence.

I'm down to earth, love art music dance museum recycling... I speak German, English, Spanish, French, a little Swedish and I'm learning Turkish.
