Göttingen is overall pretty safe. It’s a small city so you don’t have big areas with a high crime rate. There are some places that you should not go to alone at night, but those are buildings outside of the inner city.
Posted: January 8, 2025Göttingen is quite safe. A lot of young students. Which means sexual assault is criticized and talked about a lot. But young people drink as well quite a lot. All in all it can happen everywhere. But one can walk home safely in the city center.
Posted: January 2, 2025Small city, nice park with a lake, quite safe, easy transport, and many supermarkets and food places all in one area since the downtown isn’t that big. Has history and a famous university. People are quite friendly compared to big cities

Göttingen is a small city very safe and calm. It has a strong academic life with lots of students and international people. I always felt save wether walking jogging in the dark or around late at night.
Posted: October 22, 2024Göttingen is a small anf cozy university town. There are lots and lots of students, so at night there are often people around. We have also a lot of police. There are a few corners you should avoid at night like Turmstraße or Hagenweg.
Posted: March 1, 2024Göttingen is a small city and I've always felt pretty safe (as a young white woman). There are buses almost 24/7 but there is a 2-3 hour break around midnight. I wouldn't walk around alone so much outside of well-lit streets at night, but that's just normal precaution I guess.

Hey! I am Emilia, eighteen years old and from Germany. I am extremely open-minded, honest, and adventurous—therefore, I love meeting new people. I have already been abroad three times for several months. My English and German are fluent. I know the area quite well and own a car, so let me know if I can help. ;)

Hey, my name ist Lene and I study in Göttingen (Germany) nature conservation. I am a social and active person with many interests like music, climbing, traveling and hiking. Meeting new people from other cultures opens my horizon. I travelled for an Erasmus to Latvia, which was a unique experience with many adventures. Since than I enjoyed traveling to other countries with friends. Even though I am a busy person I would like to meet up, or give the opportunity for a sleeping place. Also I would like to meet up when I am traveling.
