Overall, Gießen is a relatively safe city with a large student population, thanks to its universities. Most crimes, such as theft, tend to target businesses rather than individuals. That said, like in many urban areas, it’s wise to stay alert, especially at night. I’d personally avoid being alone around the train station at night or walking through dimly lit, less frequented areas, as there have been reports of sexual harassment and assaults. Trust your instincts and use available safety options like night taxis when needed.
Posted: May 22, 2025Very safe for women, there are weird places like the train station at night - but you don’t have to be worried about getting raped or robbed as people there are usually passed out so they might weird you out but they are not dangerous
Posted: February 11, 2025A small city where mostly students life, most people are willing to help if you have any questions. There are many young people living here but of course it depends on the area of the city. I feel save here.
Posted: February 2, 2025A relatively safe city, I think not more dangerous or safe than the average German city. I do feel safe due to many students and overall young people all around the city. One can feel safe in the buses. Most of the parts of the city I will walk alone, although I think this is a super subjective view upon things. I would not walk alone at the “Marktplatz”, due to many drunk people.

I am not from Germany and have high anxiety in general about being out alone so I have not been out much but the amount of times I’ve been out i haven’t had any problems with people around me. Everyone usually keeps to their selves. I don’t know how safe it is during the night since I don’t go out much during the night but I walked with my fiancé during the night twice and felt a little uncomfortable when there’s loud shouting but again no one bothered us.

Hi, I'm Juliane (Ju), 28 from a smaller town near Gießen where I live with my boyfriend of 10 years and our dog (rescue from Italy). I'm vegan 🌱 for the animals and an absolute introvert 😶🌫️. I would love to meet people who are staying in Gießen temporarily or permanently or when I'm traveling. So far I've been too much of a scaredy cat to travel alone, but hopefully I can gather the courage to book a solo trip soon or find someone to travel with on here 🙏

Hallo, Olá, Bok, Marhaba! I’m Sarah, a 30-year-old student from Jordan. I’m doing an Erasmus Mundus master's degree which let me live and study in 3 different countries for 2 years. This study and previously volunteering in Croatia for a year gave me the chance to discover and travel in Europe 😎 I love hiking, dancing, food, and music. I like sharing the Arabic culture, music and language with people I meet. For example, If you are interested I can teach you how to write your name in Arabic in 30 min 🌚 🤘I love to do this challenge with people and at the end they feel very satisfied 😌 Currently I live in Giessen, Germany, and I travel inside or outside Germany whenever I have the chance to.
