Of course there are some idiots walking around and the area around the main train station is not very nice. But it is more homeless and drug addicts who might shout at you but in general, Frankfurt is safe and you can get to know wonderful people and places. Enjoy your trip!
Posted: September 14, 2024Frankfurt is especially „famous“ for its Bahnhofsviertel (quarter around the central train station). There are a lot of drug addicts, it is the red light district and you see a lot of strangers in the street - at day and night. At night, you should totally avoid to walk around there alone. By day time, it can be considered safe at it is next to the banking quarter and a lot of white collar people are walking around. Also, the police is present in the central train station and often also around it. I consider that the highest risk is to get approached by a drug addict, that person might be aggressive. Watch your pockets there. I wouldn’t expect sexual harassment, but cat calling or just the staring that makes women uncomfortable is definitely present around the brothels. These are situated in the side streets (e.g. Niddastrasse), so just stay in the main street (Kaiserstrasse). Because these problems are all tolerated in this quarter, the rest of Frankfurt is safer. Nonetheless, be aware that beggars are present everywhere. Trust yourself there. A lot of them approach you with „excuse me, I have a question“, I advise to just keep on walking and not talk to them. When the night begins, also the Zeil (main shopping street) can become a bit scary for a woman, due to teenage to middle aged men around there in groups that disrespect women. Catcalling and harassment is a problem there. My district is the Ostend (Eastend, around the east station and the new European Central Bank). As this is a quite new quarter where a lot of the „new generation“ of lawyers and bankers as well as white collar workers from abroad live, it is calm and safe. But still, everywhere where you have a train/underground metro station, you most probably will encounter homeless people, alcohol or other drug addicts. I personally would not hear music when walking around alone at night to always be aware of what happens around me. From time to time, some serious crimes happen, like stabbings. While these are mostly between the drug addicts, it is also probably that some psychopath will rund around especially in the central train station and may also commit serious crimes against innocent people, also sich as pushing them in front of arriving trains. Keep distance to the tracks and to suspicious people.

For me having grown up in Frankfurt I don't feel too worried even when out alone at night. There's not too much harassment in the street. However, there are areas I avoid, especially at night. However, overall it's safe, even though the city seems rough. People are nice and help when there's an issue. Don't hesitate to ask for help or support from people around you.
Posted: August 9, 2024As i grew up in Frankfurt and the neighboring city Offenbach i know the place and i feel very safe here. I am also quite independent and generally dont feel unsafe walking around at night for example.

Frankfurt is a very safe city excluding the main station at some hours . The overall is very safe and reliable. The public transport is good. The city is full of people. You can have a lot if different places Many cafes and restaurant and sight seeing places to explore in Frankfurt. The riverside is a very good place to stroll around offers a extravagant experience with a elite skyline. Wise streets and Various Parks offers a good time to walk and picnic for the pedestrians.
Posted: August 4, 2024There are a few streets with drug addicts in Bahnhofsviertel which don't feel safe and you can find creeps in other parts of the city but there are always people outside even at night so you're not alone in the streets
Posted: July 29, 2024It depends very much on the neighborhoods. After dark it is not so pleasant walking around as a woman alone. Where I live in the Preungesheim-Quarter it is very safe. I go around with my bike or with public transportation and I feel very safe also at night.
Posted: July 20, 2024Overall , it is pretty safe and I don’t mind walking around after it gets dark. But as with any other big city, you need to be careful of your belongings as there’s been a recent rise in pickpocketing
Posted: July 9, 2024Overall it feels moderate, though the train station area feels unsafe at times. Of course not everyone but some people act different on public trains, that is why I try to stay aware of my environment at all times.Being cautious is suggested.

Travelled here with a group of 6 (3 girls, 3 boys). The city centre was relatively safe with tourists and local police. We stayed near the train station (Frankfurt Hbf) which wasn’t a very safe atmosphere. A lot of unfriendly faces around and if I wasn’t travelling with my guy friends I would’ve felt very uncomfortable. Lots of drug activity, lots of staring (at us girls) and multiple times we were approached by dodgy men. Wouldn’t walk around the train station area alone. The city was a different experience entirely, felt safe and secure and would walk alone.

I definitely felt safe in this city. I usually travelled from oberursel to east of the city to catch some dance classes at the Honbu in Enkiem then go to the Gym FITSEVENELEVEN in the city I’d often leave the gym at 11PM and get home past 12PM and find that the journey to and from I felt completely safe The food was usually price I found the quality of the take out of fast wood was incredible, fresh and always made with love, eating healthy is important to me so knowing there’s always those options was so helpful I did my trip quite affordable and usually cooked at home and rarely ate out but when I did it was awesome I kept my money for activities like dancing and gym especially in the colder months when it’s snowing and little day light there isn’t much to do outside, I find when you do activities you love it’s easy to make friends and meet people which is what I tried to do. I avoided bars, clubs etc as I’m not a social drinker so I can’t comment on these spaces I particularly enjoyed bad Homburg it’s a neat and tidy area that’s very safe and a bunch of nice cafes and restaurants My favourite spot is Bella gelato italiano this spot had a choke hold on me 😭🤣 i think I’ve had the ricotta, pistachio and pomegranate gelato 10 times since being here. I’d highly recommend 🙏🏽 I’m from Australia so I’m used to warm weather, coastal living and connecting with nature. To be honest it was very difficult to stay in Germany as I’m not a city girl and when it’s to cold to be out in nature I’m not a fan, the weather is warming up and I can definitely see that the place is more beautiful going into spring and people are happier. Overall Germans don’t seem to be very joyful people that’s my only criticism
