As a woman, I oftentimes feel on edge, but in Duisburg, I always make sure to double check my surroundings. Some neighborhoods are better than others, but in areas like city center or district centers one can stumble upon drunks, addicts, and just people, who like disrupting public peace. This goes for public transportation. I would suggest keeping a low profile and avoiding eye contact with anyone who might look sketchy to you.

Duisburg has a bad reputation but how safe it is really depends on the area. The center is pretty safe, walking home at night I don't feel unsave and have never had anything happen to me. In general criminality is relatively low in my neighbourhood, or at least it is not obvious

Duisburg is a small and safe city with beautiful places to visit. You won't have any problems even when exploring on your own here. The streets are clean, the people are respectful and good; there are very few things to worry about while you're here.
Posted: January 30, 2025It frankly depends on what part of duisburg . Generally marxloh and obermarxloh are the unsafe areas where people avoid..Otherwise the train station and trams because they are ised by all sorts of people..But Otherwise, it is all pretty ok

Guys stare and you read much about knife attacks but I've never experienced anything here. Never the less, my parents always told me to be careful which also made me a bit paranoid. I do much sport which is why I am less worried now but overall I would not recommend to go aut alone in the dark
Posted: January 9, 2025There are some parts of Duisburg that are safer than others. Especially in the north, you should be a little more careful than in the south. Some crimes happen here, just like in other cities, and in principle you don't have to be afraid of being touched by men here. Stupid looks or comments are more likely and many people are unfortunately not quite so friendly.
