Rennes is a beautiful city located in Brittany. The city is pretty safe especially for women. I lived in Rennes since I came to France and I had no issues. As a woman, I recommend you to visit Rennes for sure.
Posted: February 4, 2025Depends of the area but in majority its a safe city. Be carefull in public spaces such as the train station bc there are people stealing phones. The center of Rennes is safe, the population is young and would love to give you advices
Posted: February 3, 2025Rennes is a small city, so there is not much danger. Transportation is easy and the people are cheerful. It is very enjoyable to be a tourist here, there are many students. It provides a calm and peaceful trip.

Rennes is very safe town for Europe, but sometimes it is scary to walk alone at night or evening. Of course it also depends on a place, where you walk. As I know Italy and Kennedy stations are the most dangerous places, but any other places are safe enough.

Rennes seems safe to me. I study in the city and often walk around. I have been stopped a few times but never harassed, people are mostly polite and helpful! There is a great atmosphere in the center of Rennes, I’m not sure I could say the same for some neighborhoods that are known for being risky.
Posted: January 30, 2025It's à great city, in particular for lgbtqia+ People. You can walk alone.in the streets, use the public transports without any trouble. It's also safe because People take care of eachother and be carefull..
Posted: January 26, 2025Overall safe, especially in areas where it’s animated such as the city centre. The public transportation is safe, i would say the metro feels a bit safer than the bus but both are fine in my opinion. Some streets don’t feel that safe but if you avoid them or don’t spend too much time in there it should be ok.
Posted: December 31, 2024It's an overall safe town because it's not too big, has lights pretty much everywhere, and I never hear about any problematic situations from my friends. But like in any place, there's a always a rare risk of crossing path with bad people and for that i'm always careful anywhere I go !

Rennes is primarily a student city, there are always people on the streets. Like everywhere, street harassment exists, but the city, which is mostly very activist, is generally safe for women.

Pretty safe. You can be annoyed by some guys at night at the center of the city but most people are kind and will rather help you in case of need. I still don’t recommend hanging out too late at night though (this is true everywhere in France).

Lived in Rennes for a year. Very safe area as a solo woman. Not as many expats in this area. I would recommend learning some French to make communication easier when needed. Close to tourist areas like Saint Malo or Mont Saint Michel (both 1 hour distance).
