Lot or student, really festiv, friendly, but in the dark some places are isolated and could be scary. Never had a bad experience but have been scared of drunk People because a lot of student also is a lot of drunk People
Posted: October 26, 2024Rennes is beautiful but take care at night! Especially if you are solo traveling. I had some accidents in the metro “the public transportation in general” keep your stuff close to you and don’t talk with people who are harassing in talking if they continued get off the next station unfortunately Rennes becoming unsafe everyday.

Rennes is a big city with all different kind of people. Obviously as a woman I feel afraid to come back home at night. Which doesn't stop me from doing it. In 3 years as students we've been robbed in our appartment once. I would say some neighbourhoods are less safe than the center, Republic, Villejean or the east of the city.
Posted: August 1, 2024City easy to walk, to discover alone. Super safe even in the evening. You can enjoy grabbing a glass and party all night long. It's also safe to take public transportation or uber. Feel free to discover !
Posted: July 23, 2024I would say it’s okay if u don’t Go to certain Areas at Night. Even if u do, if u ignore, it’s okay. I didn’t say i felt totally okay bc it’s dépending on you. There is Not a Lot of shooting… just in some areas nur it’s rare And it’s for drugs so as Long as u don’t get involved it’s ok. The City is cute And Nice to live in btw.
Posted: July 15, 2024I heard a lot about Rennes not being safe, but i've always lived here and never had any big struggle. Even the guys who might talk to you in the street are mostly not agressive. Some places are better to avoid by night (blosne, Villejean), but the center is very okay
Posted: June 8, 2024Rennes is a place Where you can stay until very night and fells safe. However, the public transport stop early, exeption weekends. About the transportation, at 6 pm is complet and it’s no very nice. The people is very nice and friendly.
Posted: May 21, 2024It's often busy in town, this is reassuring. Rennes is a pretty safe city where we can go out in the evening, it's a great place to live except for bicycle theft, Homeless people who can sometimes be aggressive and demonstrations. Don't worry about visiting this city

On comparaison to other cities in France, I believe it’s fairly safe in Rennes. Beside from cat calling sometimes, I’ve never really felt unsafe here. I also noticed that when someone is getting harassed and other people notice it, it will rise some reaction in solidarity.

Lived in Rennes for a year. Very safe area as a solo woman. Not as many expats in this area. I would recommend learning some French to make communication easier when needed. Close to tourist areas like Saint Malo or Mont Saint Michel (both 1 hour distance).

Hi! I am Alia and I love traveling and meeting new people, I love traveling through volunteering.
Capucine
Hi, I'm Capucine. I'm graphic designer. I've been working part-time for an oyster farm in southern Brittany, France. I'm taking a month-long holiday from July to Augus, during which I plan to travel around northern Europe. I'll be traveling slowly by bus, train or car, sometimes with my boyfriend, but most of the time I'll be on my own.
