Is Montpellier Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Montpellier is generally a safe city for solo female travelers. Crimes are relatively low and major tourist areas are regularly patrolled by local police. Day-to-day activities can be carried out without much worry. However, like in any other city, it's always wise to be cautious, especially during late hours in less populated areas, to avoid any potential safety issues.

Public transportation in Montpellier is generally safe, reliable, and efficient. Travelers can trust buses and trams as they are frequently used not only by locals but also by tourists. However, like any destination, it is important to be aware of your surroundings and belongings, especially during peak travel times when pickpocketing can occur. Overall, traveling via public transportation in Montpellier should be a secure experience with basic precautions.

Montpellier is generally considered a safe city with a lower level of street harassment compared to some larger French cities. While it's always essential to stay aware of your surroundings, instances of targeted harassment are not as heavily reported here. Is Montpellier worth visiting?

Solo travel

Montpellier is one of my favourite cities in France :) Travelling solo there was a lot of fun. I really appreciated that the city is close to the sea & that the people are really relaxed & open-minded.

It is safe but there are places reputed to be less safe. However, generally, I never heard more than guys being annoying with women in the streets. Personally, I hang out where I want how I want, Im just choosing the time and the person I hang out with to be sure I'm ok.

About me

Hey, I’m currently doing my Erasmus semester in Montpellier. I’m studying Media Science and French :) Otherwise, I really enjoy spending time in nature (hiking, cycling, inline skating), going to concerts, playing squash, and reading. I really enjoy traveling and meeting new places and people. For example, last year I spent a week and a half with a friend, living in a camper with a Danish family through Workaway.
