Safety at night:Safe

Montpellier is generally a safe city for solo female travelers even at night. However, just like any other city, it has its share of petty crime. It's advisable to stay in well-lit areas, avoid secluded places and remain vigilant at all times. Instances of harassment do occur occasionally, but generally, the city center and most neighborhoods remain lively and busy until late, providing a sense of safety.

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Montpellier is generally safe, reliable, and efficient. Travelers can trust buses and trams as they are frequently used not only by locals but also by tourists. However, like any destination, it is important to be aware of your surroundings and belongings, especially during peak travel times when pickpocketing can occur. Overall, traveling via public transportation in Montpellier should be a secure experience with basic precautions.

Street harassment:Low

Montpellier is generally considered a safe city with a lower level of street harassment compared to some larger French cities. While it's always essential to stay aware of your surroundings, instances of targeted harassment are not as heavily reported here. Be advised that crowded places can sometimes involve an increased risk. The city's atmosphere is quite relaxed, and most local residents are respectful and approachable.

Petty crimes:Low

Montpellier is a relatively safe city but, like any tourist destination, it experiences petty crimes such as pickpocketing, purse-snatching, and cell phone theft, particularly in crowded places or on public transport. However, being aware of your surroundings and safeguarding your possessions usually prevents becoming a victim.

Tap water:Very safe

The tap water in Montpellier is of high quality and is perfectly safe to drink. The local authorities regularly conduct controls to ensure the safety of the water supply, maintaining strict health and sanitation standards. Moreover, many locals drink from the tap daily. So, don't hesitate to refill your water bottles, it's safe, eco-friendly, and can help you to save some money.

Solo travel experience

Montpellier is one of my favourite cities in France :) Travelling solo there was a lot of fun. I really appreciated that the city is close to the sea & that the people are really relaxed & open-minded.

About Me

Hi! Born and raised in Poland but living in France for almost 15 years. I love to travel, discover other cultures and eat! I am an easy going person with a brain full of jokes. I like meeting knew people and listen to their stories. Simply love: animals, books, movies, rock music, long walks, nature and discovering cities. Yeah clubbing is fun, but have you ever tried silent disco? Me neither so let's do it!
