In Lille, I feel relatively safe, especially in the bustling city center. There are crowds and a good atmosphere. But like everywhere, you have to be careful of pickpockets and avoid certain neighborhoods at night. Nothing alarming, you just have to stay vigilant.
Posted: March 8, 2025Some places are risky but overall it's safe. Public transport is quite disturbing sometimes with crackheads and homeless/drunk people. But it's fine they are not harmfull and there are other people to feel safe and surrounded. I feel safe walking in the street.
Posted: February 20, 2025Overall I'd say it's pretty okay as a safety level. During the day, I feel 87% safe I'd say (we're never too cautious) but of course during the night, it gets down to let's say 60%. Sure from time to time there are dome issues, especially if you take into account the other cities of the metropole. But I'd say as long as you avoid certain specific areas known to be a bit shady you're relatively safe.
Posted: February 7, 2025Downtown is very safe to my opinion. Though be carefull if you end up drunk in the dark, rape and abuse are still a thing EVERYWHERE. The center of the city and the old part of the city are very safe.
Posted: February 4, 2025I’ve been here for 1 month, there’s a lot of university students on the streets all day, and when I go out to party, I came back walking in the dark without worrying about my safety, also I haven’t heard negative comments in the matter
Posted: January 28, 2025Lille is a very safe city in the day, if you stay in the center it is a very nice place to visit and you feel very safe. For the public transport there is always people who are payed to make sure everything is going well (and the best is in the night buses because you can ask to be dropped in front of your house). But for the night life, it is safe if you stay in the area where all the bars are, however l will not try to stay alone at night in randoms streets of the city.
Posted: January 20, 2025I love Lille !! This a really safe city but so alive !! Lots of shop, coffee, bars… you can talk to people they are really nice and you can ask them informations, they will be really helpful. If you have to visit a city in « Les Hauts de France » it would be this one !

Born and raised in Lille. Compared to other big cities in France, it's more peaceful as a woman. Kinda like belgium regarding to respecting women and queer people. However, I never felt at ease wearing a dress in Lille. In the south of France there will be heavy looks and comments, not in Lille, but it feels weirder (?) or maybe just because no one does so (?) If you are alone in a bar in Lille, peuple might talk to you by friendliness. People are outgoing and friendly in lille, it's not uncommon to make friend out of the blue, and to be quickly invited at people's places. One of our local surprise is the impressive number of people who will ask you for money. They will literally talk to you, and ask if you have money. In some places it can be a dozen times in an hour.
Posted: December 29, 2024It's quite safe during the day, but at night there are areas to avoid, and when leaving nightclubs, I have friends who have been assaulted. The city center is deserted at night, so if you're careful, everything will be fine.
Posted: December 29, 2024Usually Lille is safe to walk, go around, but muggers are everywhere in France, and I got robbed once, I'd be careful. In general there will be people in the centre but not everywhere. I've walked home after 12 and nothing's ever happened.
Posted: December 29, 2024You can go to Lille from Paris by taking a bus or a train. I took a 3h bus and was really quick. One you get there you can walk around and see all main attractions that are closed to the city center. Food is not expensive. You should try les moulles with french fries and the go to have some dessert in a bakery store but not the gouffre cause it's really thing and small that's not worth the price. To finish you can go to the Citadelle a nice park to have some rest and a drink. I would recommend to do this just in a day cause there's no more else to do after that

I want to talk about my experience in Lille because it was the first time I was hosted by a girl I had met online. I was with my roommate and our host let us stay for two nights in her place, she was such a lovely person to talk to and we could trust each other completely! I am very grateful for this experience and I hope I can do it again in the future. Lille is a beautiful city with cool architecture and some museums that we really enjoyed. The people are really nice too. I recommend it!

I'm in a workaway in Parma. I take care of a young disabled adolescent some afternoon. I like meeting new people, discover new activities, share thinks... I like manuals activities, dance, walk, drink a glass, talks.
