Is Lille Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Lille is generally a safe place for not only solo female travelers, but all travelers. Its streets are regularly patrolled and serious crime is relatively low. How safe is Lille?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Lille is reasonably safe for solo female travellers even after dark. While the main, well-lit areas with lots of people are generally secure, there can be pockets in the city that may be less safe. The overall crime rate is moderately low and serious crimes are not frequent. However, like any city, it's always advisable to stay vigilant, especially at night. Avoid poorly lit streets and always be aware of your surroundings.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Lille is generally safe. Utilizing options like the metro, buses, and trams is quite secure even in late hours due to frequent patrols and good lighting. Instances of theft or harassment are relatively rare but like any city, you should always stay vigilant and cognizant of your surroundings. During peak hours, it can get crowded, so keep your belongings close. Overall, it provides a safe and efficient method of traversing the city.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Moderate

In Lille, some occasional cases of street harassment are observed, predominantly in the form of catcalling and unsolicited comments. Although such incidents are not widespread and most women find the city relatively safe, caution and alertness are always advisable. Generally, locals are friendly and respectful, but do avoid deserted streets especially during the night.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Lille has a relatively low occurrence of petty crimes such as theft, pick-pocketing, and vandalism. As with any bustling city, it's always wise to be vigilant and aware of your surroundings. Public areas and tourist attractions can sometimes be a hotbed for opportunistic pickpockets, so keep a close eye on your belongings at all times. However, despite such risks, Lille is generally considered safe and authorities work efficiently to minimize instances of such crimes.

Is Lille worth visiting?

Solo travel

You can go to Lille from Paris by taking a bus or a train. I took a 3h bus and was really quick. One you get there you can walk around and see all main attractions that are closed to the city center. Food is not expensive. You should try les moulles with french fries and the go to have some dessert in a bakery store but not the gouffre cause it's really thing and small that's not worth the price. To finish you can go to the Citadelle a nice park to have some rest and a drink. I would recommend to do this just in a day cause there's no more else to do after that

Group travel

I want to talk about my experience in Lille because it was the first time I was hosted by a girl I had met online. I was with my roommate and our host let us stay for two nights in her place, she was such a lovely person to talk to and we could trust each other completely! I am very grateful for this experience and I hope I can do it again in the future. Lille is a beautiful city with cool architecture and some museums that we really enjoyed. The people are really nice too. I recommend it!

I was in Lille for about 3 months for school (I was 20 years old and about 4’11 (150cm). During which I lived about 30 minutes from my school and 10 minutes from the main city area and would walk very early all the way until very late at night. I took public transportation during the day and it was very clean and safe ( and on time!). When I was walking at night I did walk by myself frequently and NEVER felt threatened or unsafe! The main areas are very lit up and because of the nightlife you will still see lots of people even in the early morning hours

even though it’s safe in overall, unfortunately some streets and places are ghetto and homeless problem is everywhere. also pickpocketing way too common so it’s not the safest city in europe, i would say
