How safe is Grenoble?

It can be dangerous at some times and in some places but you don’t have to be that scared you can walk freely I think it’s like most of big cities in Europe ! Also since there are normally a lot of people in the streets it feels safer

From my perspective, I feel safe in Grenoble, because I have in mind that it is a city and of course, it can be dangerous. I take caution, but I had very few problems while living here for 4 years. I'd say that it is always better accompagnied, but even walking alone at night doesn't feel very scary, as I live in the centre of the city.

There are a lots of comments when you walk on the street alone, or with juste girl friends, but it doesn't go beyond that on most cases. Nevertheless, we have more comments and men wistling than other places I visited before. I dont particularly feel unsafe but it's not a comfortable situation.

Grenoble is known for its criminality level, especially in a few neighbourhoods where there are dealears and common fights between them. The city centre is generally safe and pleasant to visit alone, especially during day time.

Grenoble is generally safe place, but there are some places you should avoid at night and during summer when the city became empty. Especially the park and the south of Grenoble, but also the city center can be unsafe

Grenoble is a pretty safe city if you stay within the center of town, but it can get a bit unsafe when you go in the wrong neibourhoods. Avoid Saint Bruno, Villeneuve and the Olympic neiboorhood, as well as the city of Echirolles, because a lot of drugs are involved in all these places, and fights/gunshots can happen there. But overall it is still France, and safer than other countries I guess!

Grenoble is one of the cities I lived in for a few years of studies. It's not safe everywhere and there is neighbourhoods to avoid like "Saint-Bruno", "Mistral". But, overall, it's a beautiful city. The center is quite safe and there is a lot of bars with student. Its a big student city so most of people you will see are student or family. At night, I would not stay too late or alone, but if you walk or use public transport with someone else, you'll be safe. Outside Grenoble, in the mountains or cities, you'll be mostly completely safe (avoid Echirolles) and it's definitely places to visit, it's beautiful.

Grenoble is a bigger city so there's a larger variety of people. But as a student I don't feel unsafe walking around and doing things by myself. There are certain streets/areas that are a bit sketchy

It's not very safe for women, especially at night. Overall, you can have great experience but you have to be really careful at night and in the parcs all across the city. Would recommend going on a trip to Grenoble with someone but not alone.

Grenoble is beautiful but can be dangerous. You need to know where to go and where not to go. The streets to take and those to not take. Always walk where there is light and people at night. And during the day don’t mind the weird people. The public transport in the Center is good, but be carful when going outside the Center.

About Me

Hey I’m Léa, i’m 22 and I’m currently in a gap year after finishing my studies in journalism and culture I really wanted to travel in Ireland with a bike and my best friend so here we are :) We have a very limited budget so we will be camping a lot (we have a tent) We organized a bit last minute so couchsurfing would be a very good solution for some nights ! (even if it’s allowing us to put our tent in your garden haha) We also have mats and sleepingbag so all we need is a roof or a garden 🏡✨ We already did couchsurfing in Italy and it was really nice ! But we also encountered some creepy men so we wanted the women only side of the app I love to have good discussions and can speak english with a strong french accent But we also like when everyone is doing their things separately, it really depends on what you prefer We would be very happy to help cooking and teach you french slurs lol Cheers 🍻 Léa and Sarah
