Safe and quiet, this quirky ancient city in France offers quite a few nice places to visit. I enjoy shopping around the city and its surroundings, especially introducing it to visitors discovering it for the first time. Welcome!
Posted: February 8, 2025Generally safe, some areas should be avoided at night such as Place de la République, the Grésille district, and Fontaine d'Ouche. People are willing to help even if they look unfriendly. So don't hesitate to ask if you have a problem.
Posted: January 31, 2025Dijon is a quite safe city, we can totally walk around as we wish to, during day and night. I went a lot out at night and nothing ever happened during 2 years, but be cautious on where you go. Some places are very very dark and there never is anyone. Transports are safe but always absolutely complete during hours where much people take them (7-9am) (4-7pm) usually.

I’ve been living in Dijon since August and nothing happened to me I lived in Grenoble my whole life and Dijon is very safe compared to Grenoble Everyone is very Nice, very polite Nobody I know (from work) ever had problems here
Posted: December 25, 2024Dijon is generally a pretty calm city. In the city center, there’s good public lighting, and the streets usually have people around at least until midnight. As for the surrounding neighborhoods, it varies. Some areas might not be ideal for tourist visits, especially for a woman alone. While these areas don't pose significant danger, they can sometimes feel unsettling (the neighborhoods and nearby towns to be cautious of are Grésilles, Chenôve, and Fontaine-d'Ouche). Like in any small French town, you can't always predict people's behavior, but if someone approaches you a bit too abruptly, responding with a smile and a polite 'no, sorry' (“non, désolé” in French is even better) usually ends the interaction quickly. And don't hesitate to ask nearby passersby for help if you feel uncomfortable or if a situation seems beyond your control.
