Brest is a quite safe city. You just need to pay attention in some areas like Pontanezen for example. You might be called out by some men but they are not violent. There isn’t pickpockets. Overall this city is very safe for females traveler’s.
Posted: May 22, 2025Depends on the neighbourhood, but basically I don’t recommend being at night alone. Hinestly I lives in two differents places and I’ m always a little défiant regarding mâle individuals. I have been cat-called several times Even if it never went further, but I happened to witness some insecurity situations
Posted: May 20, 2025I generally feel very comfortable in the city center. I spend a lot of time in Les Capusins, in particular, and feel very safe and comfortable there. During the day, I have no qualms about walking around or jogging outside. Most of the people I've met are open and very friendly. In the evening, you do sometimes meet strange men. But I feel safe on the buses. It's fine on the tram in the evening, but I sometimes feel uncomfortable.
Posted: May 4, 2025It's pretty safe everywhere, except the bad neighborhood like Pontanézen, Bellevue, Recouvrance, or maybe Lambézélec. These neighorhoods are okay during the day, but could be dangerous at night. The port or the streets of Siam, Jean-Jaurès or Liberté have bars and nightclubs, so you will meet people at night, but nothing ever happenned to me there (except a guy whistling at me like if i was a dog)

There's a lot of screaming and fighting around town, but most of the time, you'll never be involved in it. The centre is a bit empty so there's no biggie, and les capucins are safe. Most of the time, you'll be great and, at times, uncomfortable. But around town, to the ocean, there are much more to see!
Posted: January 20, 2025The city is fairly calm, maybe except for the summertime when the students hold a lot of parties in the city center and in the harbour. There have been few cases about assaults, however they're singular cases. I live here for 3 years now and the worst thing happening to me was getting my phone stolen. I'm quite cautious person and don't go out often by the nighttime but if I had to be outside by the nighttime, I didn't encounter any problems and didn't feel unsafe

Germany
I'm here as an exchange student from Germany. I stayed 2 month already and I really like the sea, the château, les Capucins, the public transport and the open-minded people. I feel save walking and joggging alone at the day. Sometimes when it begins to get dark i feel scared of some strange man. But in the buses i feel always safe and comfortable. The tram is okay in the evenings but not always that confortable alone. Especially when you are a young woman. All in all I would recommend to visit this beautiful city and mabey you also will fall in love with the language, people and the charm of this city. Best wishes

Overall, I feel safe walking in brest event during late hours. It’s a beautiful and quiet city with cool places to explore. Although the prices here are somewhat expensive compared to other European countries, they’re still reasonable. The restaurant here are diverse and you can find anything you like here.
