Is France safe for solo female travelers?

France is generally safe for solo female travelers. Like any other place in the world, it's important to exercise some precautions. Major cities like Paris and Lyon, are safe, but like any urban area, can have pockets of higher crime. It's advisable to stay vigilant, especially during late hours and in less crowded areas. Public transportation is reliable and mostly safe, although pickpocketing does happen, so you should keep an eye on your belongings. Overall, the majority of visits are trouble-free, and the locals are helpful to tourists. It's a culturally rich country with plenty to offer a solo female traveler.

Lille, Couple travel

If you are coming to Lille I would love to recommend you to stay in JOSH hotel because it's such a beautiful and unique hotel! Try Portugal pastry (Dona Bica) the store name! The taste is amazing 😋 and try matcha from Aju coffeeshop!

France, Couple travel

This was my first trip almost alone as an adult. I went with a friend for two weeks. I was a little afraid to go on my first trip, but France exceeded my expectations! First, we visited Paris and spent four days there. We were very lucky with the weather, and we even walked around Paris together even at night. One day, we split up and visited Disneyland. It was amazing (I cried three times during the evening show🙈). After Paris, we went to Rouen. Unfortunately, we ran into trouble finding an...

Lyon

Lyon is pretty safe ! But I'm a local so I maybe don't realise every problem that could occur for tourists. The only thing I'd like to say is: be careful with your phone/bags in the subway and in the very touristic places like "hôtel de ville", "bellecour/rue de la République" and "Vieux Lyon" some pick pockets are allways around, but like every city around the globe right ?! For the rest, I feel very safe ☺️

Nantes

Nantes isn’t a very safe place for a women Gwen you’re out on your own, especially at night. But when you’re with someone or on public transport, you feel a bit safer. In the evening, it’s best to be with someone and stay alert, especially at the hangar a banane. But it’s a Lovely city by day, while plenty to see and discover

Paris

You have to be cautious when you are in crowned places, such as public transport (metro, bus, etc.) or famous spots because they can be thieves or tourist scams, and of course catcalling. Overall, even if of course, there is a lot flaws, it's totally okay to walk through Paris, even by night, except maybe for Montmartre, which is, although really pretty, can quickly feel a little oppressive.

About me

Hi, I’m Sena, I’m 19 years old, and I’m currently doing volunteer work in Aix-en-Provence. I’m here for six months and would really love to meet new people. I love trying new things and exploring. Whether it’s nature, art, music, or even food—I’m pretty much up for anything. I came to France to improve my French and to grow personally. I think traveling and meeting new people is the best way to do that. ☺️💕
