It varies completely according to the district. It is safe outside of certain neighborhoods, contrary to what is thought. Beyoğlu is the best known example. Although Taksim Istiklal Street is generally safe, a few side streets, which can be a problem at a certain time, are very dangerous and the side street in the other direction is quite safe.

Pretty safe, if you know which districts to avoid (some are really dangerous). Most tourist areas are generally safe, but you can get your things stolen. I’ve lived here for a year and nothing ever happened to me
Posted: September 16, 2025If you avoid certain neighborhoods late at night and stay in busy areas, you shouldn’t have any problems in Istanbul. Just keep an eye on your bag and other belongings to prevent theft. Public transportation is generally safe, especially the metro. I’d recommend not taking minibuses or other shared vans.
Posted: September 15, 2025overall it’s a safe place to wear whatever you want as long as you’re not far away from the crowd. and especially at nights kadıköy is fairly populated so it is not possible to be alone. there are no pickpockets etc in turkey so no need to worry about that
Posted: September 14, 2025Its safe to travel. Ther are lot of pubs and cafes staying open til late hours. My home is also in Beşiktaş. Its a great neighborhood. There are lot of ups and downs so it would be hard to wlak around by feet

I stayed at a 3-star hotel right by the beach. Markets nearby had affordable food, but restaurants in the tourist area cost €15–30. In the city center, fish with bread was cheap. Minibuses to the center were frequent and low-cost, the area felt safe, and Izmir airport was about a 2-hour bus ride.
