How safe is Istanbul?

I can go out every hours. Just need to pay attention what to do and how to do. For example until 12 am or in the morning 6 am you’ll not feel alone but between you might be careful. No public transportation so you can use taxis.

You have to take care yourself.I usually use shoulder bag because i have to feel and see my bag. If my phone is in my pocket i touch it every second to feel it is there. I have my own peper spray and electric shock.Just in case.I was lucky i never been attacked by anyone. But some woman are not.Girls you have to walk like you are a man you have to confidently walk.A man said’ i want a kill somebody i saw a girl she look weak so i kill her’You seriously have to be careful .it’s a beautiful place but So many foreign people live here and sooo crowded you can’t find who did something

Since I have lived in Istanbul for a long time and I am already a Turkish citizen, most situations seem normal to me. But especially the police density in tourism areas, security measures in the areas where schools are located feel safer. (We even joke that two of the three people in tourism areas are police.) (I got translate support while writing this part. 😊)

It’s actually a really nice city but because of the economic crisis in Türkiye lately crime rates are going up. I don’t have any explanations about the counter hate towards women in here and I am really angry about that.

Actually I have been here in Istanbul only for few days now so I still do not really know the area very well but in general everything seems to be very safe since I have been comuting/working around a lot and have never faced any issues

In Istanbul, my own experience is I don’t worry about it in crowded places or in daylight. There can be looks only. But some streets, especially when it’s evening can be dangerous for woman. I think it’s about where you are; Kadıköy, Karaköy, Beşiktaş even crowded at nights so these places are more safe. But I recommend not to hang around alone at nights just in case.

There is a conservative culture, there are many men who try to have power over women. It is very likely that men will harass you on the street, especially verbal harassment is high, physical harassment is relatively low.

Istanbul is a crowded city and this crowd brings unpleasant results for safety. I’m from Istanbul, I was born and lived my whole life here. Nowadays the city isn’t as safe as it was before. Even though its safety has got lower in time I do not worry wondering around the city, I enjoy visiting the old town and spending time at the beach. I do not worry about my safety on my daily routine. It is because some parts of the city is safer than the other parts. I can say that Istanbul has some unsafe towns, especially at night, but the overall safety isn’t aweful. You can safely walk around or hang out at most of the tourist destinations.

the nights are overall dangerous if you're all alone by yourself, it's turkey after all but crowded places such as istiklal caddesi are safe because more people = lower chance of any kind of assault. I suggest you to walk together with someone at least, stay safe everyone <3

Is Istanbul worth visiting?

Travel rating

4.5 /5

Solo travel

Well the traffic is really bad espacially during the rush hours. Apart from the traffic the view i took the picture was fascinating. The food around town is really great and you can actually find different cuisines from all around turkey and they worth to try

Family travel

I was very young when i visited Istanbul. I had family there, so i've been there once every year. It's a beautiful city that offers everything you desire. The locals are nice, but i would keep to myself as a solo female traveler and not go out when its dark or go into any creepy allys.
