overall izmir is a safe city compared to other cities in turkey however, due to all the news we hear on daily basis around the world i am pretty worried and scared of them all. I wouldnt suggest walking on the street after 11.30pm and in a back alley after dark. Not that something is gonna happen but its better to be safe than sorry
Posted: May 24, 2025I believe that even though Turkey might not be the safest country to live Izmir is not like that this city is quite safe for women and staying out for the entire night didn't create any problems in past for me

Izmir is the 3rd biggest city of Turkey (with the population of 6 million) and like every other huge city it’s not completely safe. As a tourist you can get scammed by taxi drivers, they can change the route without you noticing and charge you more than they should. Places like Bornova, Bostanlı are safe for women. For Konak and Karşıyaka, it depends on which part of the district you’re in. For example i wouldn’t recommend hanging around Basmane and Kadifekale… Compared to other cities in Turkey, Izmir is more Queer friendly but obviously it’s not the best since it’s still in Turkey D: but when i’m walking on the street i can clearly tell who would cause me trouble and who wouldn’t but maybe it’s because i’m a local. Other than that you should definitely visit my city
Posted: May 4, 2025The central areas of Izmir are safe. Locations should be researched well before staying. Places like Bornkva, Karşıyaka, Alsancak are both close in terms of transportation and safer. Some places can be unsafe at night. I recommend staying in a more central location. Femicide is high in our country. Izmir is a little safer than other cities.

I went to İzmir with my family last summer and it was amazing. I visited for the first time. They camped at a camping site around two weeks (I joined them for the remaining 4 days). If you come to İzmir you shouldn’t leave without visiting Ephesus Ruins. I would recommend visiting at night because it’s so hot during day and it looks even more breathtaking with the lightnings at night.

I was there camping and had to tell you that I left my heart in Izmir when I came back to the İstanbul🥹. The food, sea, and people, and every second I spent there was a magnificent memory for me. I am thinking about going to Izmir this summer again if I have my chance.
