How safe is Sheffield?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Sheffield, like most cities in the UK, is generally considered to be safe. However, no city is without its areas of concern and it's always good to stay vigilant, especially at night. The city has well-lit streets and it's advisable to stick to populated one. Use common sense such as avoiding less trafficked and poorly lit streets or parks, and being aware of your surroundings. Public transportation and taxis are readily available for commuting after dark. Night safety can be enhanced if you are aware of your drinks in pubs and clubs, don’t accept drinks from strangers and avoid walking alone late at night.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation services in Sheffield are generally reliable and safe. Buses, trams, and trains largely maintain punctual schedules and are well-maintained. Women travelling alone can feel relatively secure, even in off-peak hours. However, it's recommended to stay alert and aware of your surroundings, especially during late-night travels.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Sheffield is generally considered quite a safe city, especially by UK standards. As a solo female traveller, you'll witness that the locals are kind-hearted and respectful, and street harassment is comparatively less common. However, every city has its issues, and Sheffield is not an exception. It's wise to stay aware of your surroundings, like avoiding quiet, poorly-lit streets at night, for instance. Use your common sense and you'll likely have a positive experience.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Moderate

Like most cities, Sheffield does experience some degree of petty crime such as pickpocketing, particularly in busier areas and during key tourist seasons. However, overall, the city has a generally safe reputation, and most visits are trouble-free. Always be vigilant and take the usual precautions to secure your belongings.
Tap water:

Tap water:Very safe

In Sheffield, the tap water is generally very safe to drink. Regular tests are conducted to ensure quality, and the local water authority meets the stringent standards set by the EU. It is also often fluoridated to help improve dental health. Therefore, carrying a reusable water bottle and refilling it with tap water can help you stay hydrated during your travels.

Is Sheffield safe for women?

Sheffield is a friendly, open and safe place to live and explore. I feel extremely comfortable here, especially with my girlfriend, when I go out in the day and at night. As with all cities, the night hours can be a bit more daunting, but I do feel safe here.

Sheffield is super safe, I feel confident to walk around my neighbourhood after dark. The city is full of lovely people, including loads of young students so I always feel surrounded by similar aged people to myself.
