Sheffield is generally considered safe for solo female travelers. Like all cities, it has areas which are safer than others so proper caution is advised. Public transports and commercial areas are well-lit and populated even at night. However, staying vigilant especially during late hours and avoiding isolated places is encouraged. It's overall safe, but always be aware of your surroundings, and don't make yourself a target like putting your phone in your back pocket. It will get stolen! Areas in the Sheffield city centre and the Moor are, in my opinion, risky, as when it reaches the evening there, you may be harassed so avoid that.

As with anywhere else in UK. Be sensible and don't go out alone after dark . Avoid dark alleys and off the beaten tracks if on own. Most people are friendly and helpful. I tend to hike in groups and there and many groups visiting the surrounding peak district.

Sheffield is a live city at night, and it is known for its student nightlife. For this reason, I feel safer on a night, the university is like an urban jungle and covers areas of the city. There are areas in Sheffield, like any city, which feel less safe but I have never felt afraid. I have felt uncomfortable a few times after being catcalled however.

I’d say it’s an underrated city, with lots of history. Good night life, cheap drinks and safe to go around at night. like every city it does have some unhinged people however they are easy to spot and shouldn’t bother you if you steer clear.

Having lived here until I was 18 and then on and off since then, I am now 32, I have never had any unsafe experiences and feel very safe cycling around the city at my primary source of transport, I have always walked home alone in the dark and felt very safe also.

About me

Hi! I’m Venus, 23, from Indonesia, and currently studying in Sheffield, UK. Planning a solo Europe trip this August/September and hoping to meet lovely travel buddies along the way! I’m a little shy at first, but once I’m comfortable, I can be chatty. Always up for good food, exploring, hiking, yoga, and making new friends 💛💛

About me

Hi, I'm a 21 year old looking for some travel companions for the summer of my degree. I'm more of an outdoor activity person than a city break enjoyer, so down for anything which gets you in nature. Big enjoyer of walking, climbing and miscellaneous artistic pursuits. English, so down to swim in any dubious / bad smelling bodies of water. Looking forward to finding some more people!
