Did a study abroad trip to Oxford when in college. It was a great first experience traveling without family and doing it with a group but still solo in a way. My friends enjoyed Cafe Tarifa as a hot spot to visit. This was a long time ago so not sure if there still there. Try your hand at punting in the river for a fun activity.
Posted: May 15, 2026Such a lovely medieval city with lots of good stores and restaurants/tearooms/pubs, beautiful nature and nice attractions! The people are really friendly, I made lots of local friends during my stay. Totally worth the travel

Edinburgh is beautiful and full of tourists, I didn’t see any crime or have anything negative happen to me! There were plenty of things to do at ranging prices, I fully recommend a tour to Lochness and climbing the castle

We went in the Middleton of januari it was very quiet, therefor the hotel was quite cheap. Public transport is easy to navigate. It is a beautiful City with history. Cool architecture everywhere around you

Pretty safe but do be aware as a girl walking alone at night! Be careful of your surroundings always and try not to walk alone at night through dark alleys. Also the leys area by henry box and the church can be quite sketchy at night and also the alley from there towards maccies

I feel safe walking home at night. You would see the local homeless person asking for change, but they’ve always been polite when you say you don’t have change to give them. Literally says “ok mate, no worries have a good night”…. That safe.

Just like any other major city, it's sensible to be cautious on quieter streets at night. There is a problem with drugs and homelessness in the city but generally you won't be unsafe because of this. Although the night life is big, it's not always safe and I would recommend being aware of people around you on a night out.

Edinburgh is generally a very safe city. There can be antisocial behaviour mainly by teenagers on Prince's Street, but as it is well lit, and there's almost always people around (even at night) I have always felt safe enough to walk by and keep my head down. They are usually between the ages of 12-17 and their crimes are usually along the lines of throwing a milkshake rather than actual random violence. But best to steer clear. Try to avoid unlit parks at night as a matter of good habit. As a...

London

I'm originally from Sydney, Australia but currently living in London, UK. I love music, good food (not necessarily fine dining!), art and architecture. I could wander around stationery stores for ages. I like to have a coffee and just people watch. Doing the touristy highlights is fine, but it's always best to see how the locals live and play! I'm practicing sketching so if the weather's nice, I'd love to have a sketch buddy! I can speak conversational Cantonese and Japanese, and some Mandarin! 🇭🇰🇯🇵🇨🇳 I'm learning Spanish verrrrry slowly! And of course, English is my native language. Hope to cross paths on our travels soon!

I’m Claire. I’m a creative who is trying to make herself less allergic to earning a conventional living. I teach weaving for work and have a habit of ending up involved in beautiful creative community projects. I love crafts and am passionate about them from a political pre industrial stance. I aim to keep heritage craft skill alive through my work. I live with about 45 soft toy monkeys who are very alive to me and you’ll see in some of the pictures. I’ve lived in Brighton for 15 years so know my way around and would be very happy to host people travelling here.
