Safety overview

Safety at night:Safe

Brighton, UK is generally safe for solo female travelers during nighttime. The city is filled with vibrant and lively nightlife and is well-lit, especially in areas with pubs, restaurants, and shops. However, like any other city, it does have areas that are quiet and less populated at night. It's always advised to stay in well-trafficked, central areas and avoid dark or deserted places if you're alone. Regular precautions that apply everywhere apply in Brighton as well, such as keeping an eye on your belongings and avoiding confrontations. It's worth knowing that the city has a generally helpful and friendly attitude, with people around willing to assist or guide, should you need any help.

Public transportation: Safe

Brighton's public transportation, which includes buses and trains, is generally considered safe for solo female travelers. During the day, transportation is often busy with locals and tourists, providing a sense of security. At night, while there may be fewer passengers, the presence of security cameras and occasional security patrols tend to deter crime. Do bear in mind, however, that it's always important to be aware of your surroundings and keep your belongings safe, as in any city in the world.

Street harassment: Low

Brighton is a generally safe and welcoming city, known for its open-minded and liberal culture which extends to how residents treat visitors. However, like any other place, it is not totally devoid of instances of street harassment. You may encounter occasional disrespectful behavior or uncomfortable situations, especially during busy and packed times. While cases are relatively rare, it's always wise to stay aware of your surroundings, particularly at night. Overall, the atmosphere is not threatening and Brighton tends to pride itself on being an inclusive and safe space.

Petty crimes:Low

Brighton is relatively safe with petty crimes such as pickpocketing and purse-snatching being infrequent. However, like all popular tourist destinations, it can still happen, especially in crowded areas and high-tourist spots, so maintaining caution and being aware of your surroundings is advisable. Avoid overt display of wealth and always secure your belongings

Tap water:Very safe

Tap water in Brighton, is highly safe to drink and is rigorously tested to maintain quality. It meets all the strict standards set by the European Union for water quality. It is also common to find residents and tourists alike drinking directly from the tap, so it comes highly recommended for its safety and cleanliness.

Solo travel experience

I went to Brighton solo and can say I felt pretty safe there, there are lots of bright lights at night from the station to the beach. North Laine was my favorite area, there are lots of cool shops. I'd also recommend the restaurant "We love falafel", absolutely amazing food.
