My experience in Osnabrück eas amazing. I found a really lovely host via Be Welcome who even gave me her bike to use! I had a wonderful time in this small cute city. Everything is reachable by bus or bike or even foot. Roses and lavender were blooming and the people were friendly. I felt very safe, even on the main roads and city centre at night.

Osnabrück is a rather small city. People there are overall a bit stuffy. Of course there is sexual harassment just like anywhere else in the world (sad to say) but I’ve been living there for almost 5 years now and I’ve been harassed by a group of teenage boys once. I have to say I grew up with a lot of men around me so I might have a thick skin but I’ve never felt unsafe walking around the city in darkness or going somewhere alone. (There’s also going to be a taxi only for women during the summer months that will drive you home safely for a decent price.) I also have to say that if you are LGBTQ+, you might experience some harassment and hate. Osnabrück itself is pretty open, has a LGBTQ+ community and celebrates special events every year but as I said: most people there are a bit stuffy.
