Is Germany safe for solo female travelers?

Germany is generally a very safe destination for solo female travelers. The crime rate is low and local citizens are typically courteous and helpful. Public transportation, including trains and busses, is widely available and secure. Nevertheless, previously would be wise to respect general safety guidelines as in any other place, such as avoiding isolated areas late at night and being aware of your belongings. German people usually speak English, which makes communication easier. Remember, always trust your instincts.

Hamburg, Solo travel

What a beautiful city to visit in summertime:) There are some many things to do here: visit Miniatur Wunderland (remember to booked the ticket in advance), the Elb river, Elbphilharmonie, Speicherstadt, the Bunker, Elbtunnel, two Bundesliga teams (St.Pauli and HSV), and so many more:) Small tips: you can take some of the ferries for free, instead of paying for the tourist ships, check online in advance! I recommend to stay more than four days here, including weekends since there are markets...

Berlin was really beautiful. I always heard that the city is lame or boring but I had so much fun there, I traveled with one friend and it was very safe!! People are so collaborative and help a lot. However, honestly, I felt minor racism, but it was all amazing!

Fulda

Fulda feels very safe to me. As a woman I wouldn’t go to the parks at night. It might be irrational but its a feeling that going to a park alone at night is not a good idea. Also at night after a event when I have to go home alone I usually walk quickly and have my phone ready to be able to make a emergency call. But I feel like this is something that I started because of recent developments regarding safety in general. Nevertheless I don’t have a specific are in Fulda that I consider unsafe....

Erfurt

Erfurt is a very safe city where you can move freely, even at night. If a place is crowded you should still pay attention to your belongings (phone etc.) but other than that there are rarely other crimes.

Constance

Rather small city in Germany with safe neighborhoods and well lit streets. I have never felt unsafe as a woman even at late night hours. City center is small, very walkable and petty crime is very low.

About me

So, what’s there to know about me? I’m an architect, queer, vegetarian, feminist, neurospicy (AuDHD) and am very clumsy. I don’t take myself too seriously, am a bit of a goofball and enjoy to joke around with friends. I love being on the go without having much of a plan, just see where it takes me. I’ve traveled by myself or with friends quite a bit already but there’s still many places I want to go. When traveling, the most important part for me is to get to know the culture and people of the country and really be able to appreciate its beauty through also seeing/experiencing the challenges. No glorification, just the day to day live of ordinary people and their stories.
