a lot of nice restaurants and stunning view at elbe river. there's not as much of a problem with sexual assault and feeling of unsafety as you would expect. only at night or in the outer skirts it might be a little scary at times. people tend to be a little cold/neutral, and watch out if you're a woman of colour, since the people sometimes tend to be annoyed or even openly racist when you speak foreign languages (e.g. arabic). otherwise still a very beautiful city with great infrastructure and a lot to explore. police is reliable.

ok, dresden is quite an expensive city but in a week I was able to spend about 100€ (maybe it's cheap for you), there are a lot of youth events where different freaks gather (I advise you to go to the park in Neustadt!!) also if you are interested be sure to go to the open space, these guys sometimes organize cool meetings and be sure to TRY THEIR SHAWARMA. the downsides are the rather expensive city transport and the constant problems with trains (definitely buy tickets on Flixtrain!! they are much cheaper there) and I strongly advise against walking alone at night, there are a lot of drunk men there who can harass you.

I traveled with a bunch of female friends. In our group I always felt safe, because I had people around me. If I were travelling alone I would have probably not gone out late, because Dresen still is a big city. We stayed at the AO Hostel. It’s very recommended. Cheap, nice rooms, good breakfast even and close to the city Center. But I’m sure staying at a hostel in Neustadt is even more of an experience. When visiting Dresden you definitely have to check out Neustadt for bar hopping. Spending the afternoon/ evening at the Elbufer, ordering food and having a chat when the weather is warm must be one of the best things to do. I can highly recommend “Falscher Hase” when you want to eat in a nice and cozy atmosphere and enjoy an amazing vegan cuisine! Getting around in DD is no problem. You have many train stations and bus stops. Simply count in longer waiting periods for the night.

I visited Dresden solo for 3 days and felt super safe the entirety of my trip although I was mostly out during daylight. I took the train in and used public transportation to get around which was easy and got me everywhere I needed to. I stayed at Lollis Homestay, a cozy hostel in the Neustadt neighborhood close to plenty of bars and restaurants. The Frauenkirche church in the city center is breathtaking inside and a must see. The Molkerei Pfund dairy shop was so crowded but beautiful and necessary for me to see as a fan of The Grand Budapest Hotel. I also rented a bike a couple of times and rode through some nice big parks in the city.

Dresden is considered relatively safe, but some people may still feel uneasy. The city has a low crime rate, and in terms of safety, Dresden has a good score in city rankings. Overall, however, one should be cautious, especially at night and in certain parts of the city, such as the "Neustadt" area. I personally haven't had any bad experiences, but I have heard of a few cases of harassment (like in any other big city).
Posted: October 8, 2025It depends on where you are in Dresden, but overall I would rate it as an average safe town for women/queer people. There are districts that are known for being safer and more liberal spaces and there are others, that are known to be more dangerous. but usually the public transport and the city center has a lower risk. still, dresden is known to become more and more right.
Posted: October 1, 2025Dresden is my hometown, where I grew up and lived more than 20 years. It is definitely safe for women. In my whole life in Dresden, only a few men in misbehaved towards me. Compared to other cites, the crime rate is very low.

Dresden overall is pretty safe I would say. There are some cases of robbery. Someone stole my bag once with a distraction tactic. So if you sit somewhere, don’t let your bag out of your sight or just hold onto it. But no one ever attacked me and I also don’t know people who were attacked. I feel round about safe walking through the streets but it also depends on the time and where you are. Outside of the train stations in the middle of the night (after 01.00 round about) can feel a bit unsafe. But in the city centre and the main streets it’s okay. There are some weird or drunk people in the trains and trams sometimes. These are some of the points to be careful with, but all in all I still feel safe. As a women I am always a bit worried about being attacked or assaulted when I’m alone at night, but nothing ever happened. Still, stay safe. It doesn’t hurt to be careful.

I live in the Neustadt, it translates into “new city” and you could say it’s accurate. It’s more “woke” as in more queer, accepting etc. I very very rarely have uncomfortable experiences, and I am out almost every night. I can’t give out an opinion about the other side of the city, as far as I have seen it’s more conservative, and a place where cat-calling could potentially have place, especially after dark- I haven’t been attacked there before but that’s simply because I avoid it.
