I felt safe, but most of the food was greek or Schnitzel there was almost no other kind of meat, it was really cold even if it was august and there was not much to do, just going to the mall and stuff like that, I did like an asian place that had "red curry rice" in the hannover train station mall, it was the best food I tried there, and after 2 years, I still miss it
Posted: December 30, 2024Experienced: July, 2022I think Hannover is a great city to travel. It’s big and modern, which attracts me a lot. I’ve definitely had a great time there. And also I love the buildings there. It’s not single but different kinds of. I love this Variety. It’s like the people there, from different countries and have different views.

I actually feel very safe in Hanover, but I also have to admit that I grew up in what many people would probably consider one of the rougher or less safe parts of the city. My neighbors were sex workers and drug addicts, so being around people like that was normal for me. I think that mainly taught me how to interact with all kinds of people and showed me that peaceful coexistence is possible, which is why I’m not particularly afraid in those situations. That said, I can understand why people...

Hannover is safe but I would be at the Steintor Region during the day and especially not during the night. Also I try to avoid the main train station (Hbf) during late hours. There are sometimes weird people wondering around. Protection people are present tho at the main train station

Hannover feels normally safe like in other big cities in germany. If you'd like to feel extra safe, avoid the main station and Steintor in thr nights. The people are nice and open and I feel really safe.
Posted: March 17, 2026You don't have to be afraid as long as you generally avoid dangerous areas (Steintor, Hauptbahnhof, Nordstadt, etc.) after dark. Nevertheless, caution is advised, as friends of mine have been harassed or mugged in these areas.

I feel secure but we shouldn't trust anybody anywhere. I already took Subway at 2am and that was fine. There were some drunk people but also some that comes home after a trip (late train) so I would feel insecure if there was only drunk people but they are not.
Posted: August 12, 2025Hanover is a very safe German mid-size city (around 600.000 inhabitants). The overall crime rate is not very different from the low German medium. I do know of some women who are worried about being alone at night, but the public transport system is great and will safely get you almost everywhere even at night. There is a risk of experiencing cataloging or verbal harassment. I personally don't like the are around the central station but it's always highly trafficked and I never felt unsafe. I...

I came here from couchsurfing, which I used for 12 years. So I'm an experienced host as well as a guest who follows your house rules. By now, I mainly travel to Italy, because I am in love with the people, the culture, the food and the landscape. As a host I offer a key, so you can come and go as you please. You can get a guest bike if needed. Also, you'll be invited to my table when I cook, if you want to. Just know that I smoke, and I do so inside my apartment. If you can't stand that, please don't ask me to host you, because I am not going outside of my own home. I do so when I'm a guest in your house though.
