You can walk on the streets any time of the day/night. Go on walks, hikes... The city is small but well active thanks to a large student community and a big university campus. The train station is also safe as it resides in the center of the town and police is always there.

Göttingen is a small cute city in the middle of Germany. It's very safe, but the busses in the evening are not driving that often. There is many police in evening in Göttingen, so it's very safe. But you should not ride your bicycle without light or, when you are drunk.

Göttingen is a university city in Germany. There are many young people who speak English and are willing to help. The public transportation is good, although there are often changes because of several roadworks.

It’s pretty safe. Especially downtown shouldn’t be a problem at all. :) I’m sure there are certain neighborhoods you shouldn’t necessarily walk in at night and alone as a woman, not because you WILL be attacked, but because you may feel a little uncomfortable if you are somewhat more sensitive or easily uncomfortable.

Overall, it's safe walking around Göttingen day and night. There are one or two streets I would avoid passing through due to the drug scene, but strolling around the city center is no problem. On weekends, there are often groups of drunk people walking around but I would expect that from every city.
