How safe is Augsburg?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Augsburg is generally known for its safety, including during the night time. It is a student city with good lighting and regular police patrols. Although no city is without crime, incidents are relatively low in Augsburg. It's common to see people walking alone at night. However, as a solo female traveler, it's always wise to practice general safety precautions: avoid quiet and poorly lit areas, always be aware of your surroundings, and opt for populated areas whenever possible for extra reassurance.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Augsburg has a reliable public transportation system that is truly convenient and is generally considered safe. It consists of trams and buses that operate both day and night. However, like any city, it is still advised to be cautious especially during late night travel and in less crowded areas. The well-lit stations, modern vehicles, and the presence of fitted security cameras provide an added level of security.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Very low

Augsburg is known for its friendly environment and respectful locals where street harassment is not a common issue. As a solo female traveler, you will generally feel safe when walking around, even at night. However, normal precautions should always be practiced and it's advisable to stay in well-lit areas and avoid appearing to be a vulnerable target. People in Augsburg respect personal space, and incidents of street harassment are rare.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Augsburg enjoys a low level of petty crime like pickpocketing and purse snatching, especially in comparison to other European cities. However, just like everywhere else, it's always advised to be mindful of belongings, staying alert in crowded places, and using common sense while travelling. Most locals are known to be honest and welcoming to tourists. Public transportation and tourist areas are secured and usually have a police presence.
Tap water:

Tap water:Very safe

In Augsburg, the tap water is of excellent quality and is perfectly safe to drink. The city is known for its strong commitment to maintaining high standards of public facilities, which include water safety. The tap water is treated regularly and undergoes many rigorous checks to ensure it remains fit for consumption. So, you need not worry about waterborne diseases or health problems from it during your stay.

Is Augsburg safe to travel?

Family travel experience

we felt safe during the day but sometimes when it got dark, there were a lot of wannabe-gangsters around the bus stations. but nothing bad ever happened. we recommend pretty much all the sights we visited, the golden room was very pretty and there's a lot of detail so you could spend hours looking at the murals, the fuggerei was interesting, there's a dig site right beside the dome... we lived in an airbnb outside of the city centre, about an 20min bus ride to the main attractions. the busses drove regularly and we had no issue getting around. the biggest problems we had was with leaving our luggage at the train stations. we could not find a safe to put them in so we had to leave early.

Augsburg is quite safe in my Opinion. Of course you can never be 100% sure, that nothing is going to happen, and maybe don't put yourself in risky Situations in the first place. But overall Augsburg is a safe place!
