If you love cafe-hopping, quaint views every season and having a lovely time York is definitely your place. I've lived here for nearly 15 years now and it's honestly one of the most beautiful places I've seen. I feel so lucky to call it home. Food and coffee-wise, I'd recommend Brew and Brownie, Remedy Coffee (a carbon neutral and plant based cafe and also their pancakes are SO GOOD), Double Dutch, and pretty much anywhere at Spark where you'll find independents in container units and the nicest people ever. They also do fitness classes at a decent price (women-led by the amazing Ossie). I would say York is very safe. I have experienced the odd bit of cat-calling here of a night, mainly Fridays and Saturdays. But there are a lot of street rangers out of a night who are helpful. The one thing I would say about York is it is verging on London prices now. Things aren't as cheap as they once were, but there are plenty of places for cheap eats. One place I'd highly recommend is Lapin, a new cafe which is located a little outside the centre. You can get homemade cake and coffee for £5 and the staff are very kind. Give York a go! You won't regret it 😊
