Overall I had a really good trip, specially important being one of my first solo trips. I stayed on an Airbnb that was exclusively for solo travelling women that made me feel really comfortable and secure, the neighbourhood (Southfields) was great as well. I found London to be an amazing city in terms of safetyness, it of course has some dangers being a big city as all of them but compared to Rome for example (where I lived for a year), London felt super safe, I received no cat calling and wasn’t afraid to walk around alone. Price-wisely it can be expensive, especially the food out, so I would recommend booking a place where you are able to cook so you can save some money. In contrast museums were totally free and I found a lot of activities to do that weren’t expensive. Aside from this some shopping was included on my trip that did up my budget a bit ;). Overall I feel like you can accommodate the trip to your budget. Public transportation was nice, allowed me to get everywhere comfortably, specially the tube which was fast and counts with a ton of stations. You can pay simply with your credit card which is nice as well. Some of the stuff I loved were the vintage and second hand shops, the markets and restaurants from other cultures. But overall my favourite thing was the lively vibe of the city, at least during summer, and the kindness of the people I encountered <3.

London is a beautiful place and if you're new to the city, than its even more exciting and fascinating. It's a great experience for tourists and a must see if you ever visit the UK. I'd recommend jumping on the Uber boat (which serves all different stops along the River Thames) and gives you the opportunity to cruise through London.. Mark my word, it is nore beautiful at night when everything is lit up!
Posted: September 5, 2024It was excellent and safely to travel in London. I went to Harry Potter studios which I dreamed about it, and totally worth it. It was safe, you can walk everywhere, and use subway. I really enjoyed and wanna travel in London again
Posted: August 31, 2024Birmingham is big city a bit chaotic but very well connected by public transport. The Victoria square and the library are great places to spend the afternoon. Birmingham is multicultural so you cam also find great food from all around the world

It’s the most charming of cities with warm people, rich history, stunning views, and unforgettable experiences. The castle dominated the city and tour, and is a can’t miss. It feels…. Like you can sense the history as in one direction you overlook crashing waves, in another grassy hills, and yet another, a thriving metropolitan city.
Posted: August 28, 2024I traveled with family and a couple of friends to Edinburgh in 2018. As soon as we arrived, I felt like home. Edinburgh is a very safe city. Getting around was pretty easy. We either walked to Princess Street or took the bus, which had Wifi, so it's very helpful in case you don't have a local data sim card. The food was great! Even the sandwiches at Starbucks were delicious. The fish and chips is a must! We also paid for a couple of tours. One to the Edinburgh Castle, and another one to The Whiskey House. Edinburgh must definitely be on your list of travel destinations if it isn't already, the culture is rich, the food is great, and there's so much to do.
Posted: August 20, 2024Experienced: May, 2018I stayed in London Solo in a hostel for 3 nights and I felt safe. I recommend to visit The Lookout, National history museum and Sky garden. I used public transport and walked to every location. I honestly had an amazing time. :)
Posted: August 18, 2024Experienced: January, 2024I traveled to London for a summer break, and stayed near Bayswater underground station, and had everything near by either by underground or walking. I felt safe and lived in a comfortable area, and even when returning home to the hotel at 11 pm I still felt safe. I can recommend staying in this area when travelling solo.

I went to Hartington for 3 days on August 2022. Took the train from Birmingham to Derby and then a bus to Ashbourne and then a final bus to the little town of Hartington. I used google maps to figure out the route and worked just fine ! I stayed at the YHA (youth hostel) although I was the only youth, most visitors being families or groups of seniors 😅 The food was good but expensive as the town is very little. There is a coffee shop but I don’t remember any shops or mini markets, which makes eating out the only (and expensive) option. I spent 3 days walking different trails around the town. I downloaded AllTrails and used that as my map. The goal was to hike on my own, and I did very much that. On the smaller trails, or when I was close enough to town, I ran into a few people (usually seniors or families). Besides that, I was pretty much on my own and felt completely safe even though I’m a WOC (Peruvian, dark hair and olive skin, very much in contrast with locals).

I spend a little time in London and also in Oxford. I feel really safe. I stayed in a hostel close to the city centre. That was also very good. There is so much to do and the transport really good and easy to handle

Oxford is a very safe city especially in the centre with low levels of crime. Feel very safe walking or using public transports as a female across the whole city. The most common crime is bike theft.
Posted: September 5, 2024Portree is a small town on the Isle of Skye. There’s few locals and many tourists. Scottish people are polite and willing to help. You can go around using the bus. You’ll meet lots of travelers. I’ve been recommended not to go to the local pubs though

I'm a freelance UX and service designer, currently community manager for a small non-profit. I enjoy solo travel as an introvert, going at my own pace and planning my day, but sometimes miss sharing experiences and adventures with others. I tend to stay in boutique hostels with female dorms or Airbnbs. (I'm always up for sharing accommodation or rentals!) I'm a foodie (vegetarian), coffee lover, culture vulture, love urban photography and just coddiwompling around. I don't drink much (maybe socially) and am not a party person. I kind of had an existential/early mid-life crisis during the pandemic, feeling like I'm missing out on life and what if the next year brings something even worse!? So I cancelled my lease in London and went travelling. As a millennial I'm unlikely to but my first home any time soon, and 50% off my income went on rent, so in order to save up (and work part time for my mental health), I'm house and pet-sitting. My itinerary: 🇵🇹 Portugal until 15.5. 🇪🇦 Spain 18.5.-1.7. 🇧🇻 Denmark 1.7.-20.7. 🇸🇪 Sweden 20.07.-22.7. 🇬🇧 UK 29.7.-24.8. 🇭🇷 Croatia 24.8.-20.9. If you'd like to follow along with my trips, you can find me on Instagram 📷 @coddiwomplingdumpling ✏️ Also! Hi I'm Sol, I'm from Brighton :) I like swimming, art, illustration, eating, sewing, movies, reading and music. My particular interests are Lord Of The Rings, fantasy and horror movies.
I think London is safe for women, but be careful of pickpockets and having your phone out without paying attention, the rise of people snatching phones put of hands while on a bike, is increasing. London doesn't habe to be expensive, there are many free museums, galleries and places to see. Our transport system is good, so you don't have to stay in central London and pay for really expensive hotels.
Posted: August 3, 2024Yes Redcar is safe for women, I live a 2 minute walk from the sea front near the main town centre and it’s peaceful even in the busy period of summer, You do get a few odd evenings with drunken people walking home but they are no harm and just usually loud because they are drunk this is a rare occurrence. You have public transport within easy walking distance that can take you on a short trip to other coastal towns and the beach is a lovely walk. You have a little local cinema on the sea front and some of the best fish and chips shops to choose from. You can usually tell the bad streets from walking down there but they are rarely the Main Streets. The town centre itself may not have much but does give you plenty of charity shops to choose from if you like a bargain

I’ve lived here and attended university here. I can confidently say that Norwich is a VERY safe city. The crime rate is very low and the police are very involved (especially down the club street). When you get off the train station well you have the club street with a couple bars and clubs, and a few strip clubs. Although you can get the rare homeless person that may approach you for change, it’s a safe street. All of the nightclub staff are also extremely friendly and helpful. I’ve walked alone at night lots of times and felt completely safe in the city. Buses are frequent and cheap (£2 each).
Posted: July 18, 2024Typically try to stay on the Main Street by the station/hospital and towards the Central London side of Whitechapel. It’s ok during the day, few crazies walking around but when it’s dark there’s a lot of groups of men that are intimidating
Posted: July 16, 2024Edinburgh is safe for solo women and NB travellers, and I would feel safe at night on my own in well lit main roads as there are usually people about. I live in Leith so am biased, but I think the bars, restaurants and shops around here are great. It has a more artsy and diverse feel than other parts of Edinburgh. I would explore Leith walk and Easter road for cafes, pubs, bars and shops, and the Shore for cafes and pubs especially if the weather is nice as you can sit outside. There are a few nice cafes and pubs also on great junction street, particularly the Lioness of Leith, and Constitution Street, particularly Smoke and Mirrors for an evening wine/cocktail, or Rocksalt cafe for coffee/food (they also do lovely cakes!). Portobello is also lovely for a seaside town vibe, and crammond beach is nice to cycle along and for a BBQ. Getting around there are great cycle paths (though some parts of Edinburgh are pretty hilly!), buses are frequent and so are trams though these only go to particular spots. If you are feeling lazy you can take your bike on the tram.
Posted: July 6, 2024Manchester is a very vibrant city. It is multicultural and diverse, with a good and close-knit community. It is home to the Manchester United Football Stadium. One of the largest malls in Europe, called the Trafford Centre, is situated in Manchester. It hosts high-end brands and is popular among tourists. We also have Winslow Road here, famously known as the Curry Mile. It hosts restaurants offering multicultural cuisines from all over the world. Manchester is surrounded by beautiful peaks. If you want a scenic day out in the hills, you can go to the Peak District, which has beautiful lakes and green hills.

Lovely little town. Lots of interesting shops, boutiques, cafes and places to see. Often hold community events such as fayres and markets. Great walking paths and cycle routes into the peak district and very close to well known places like Dovedale. Easy access or a good stop if venturing into the Peak District. Lots of local camp sites too.

As a local who has lived in London for six years, I have some recommendations for travelers visiting this vibrant city. London is fairly safe, but like any big city, it's important to exercise caution. Keep your belongings secure and be aware of pickpockets, especially in crowded tourist areas. For museum lovers, I highly recommend the Victoria and Albert Museum. It's absolutely gorgeous and has a lovely courtyard garden where you can enjoy a coffee if the weather is nice. During the colder months, there's a stunning cafeteria inside. Just across the road is the iconic Natural History Museum, famous for the whale skeleton in the main hall. Don't miss the earthquake simulation room on the last floor, which replicates one of the biggest Japanese earthquakes in the last decade. Both museums are free to enter. On a good day, a walk along the South Bank is a must. Start at the Millennium Bridge and make your way along the river to Big Ben. While you're there, I'd suggest skipping the London Eye – in my opinion, it's overrated and overpriced. For food, Chinatown is a great spot for Chinese cuisine. If you're in the mood for steak, Flat Iron is superb, and you can even get free ice cream if you visit the location by London Bridge. For tapas, try Lobos, which offers a fantastic dining experience. Most restaurants require booking and have limited walk-in capacity. Enjoy your visit to London!

London, like any city can be unsafe. Personally I have never witnessed anything, but you have to be vigilebg and take care of your belongings. Id you see anything unsafe its easy to get away from i.e the tube can be unsafe but its quick and easy to get of at the next stop. It’s easy for London to get crowded if you at an event or during rush hour, so I would typically avoid traveling around between 7-10am and 4-7pm. If you stick to the touristy, well known areas. Walking round at night is as safe as any other city. There are normally lots of people about.

Super fun and vibrant city. I'd say it's pretty safe for women at night compared to most cities. There's a big police presence on the weekend at nights and we also have NE1 city patrol. Endless food options and many Michelin star restaurants, loads for veggies and vegans everywhere, the Grainger market is great for cheap eats from morning until around 4 pm (excluding Sunday) big price range of different places to go so you can find anything in budget. It's really well connected but busses are always late so take timetables with a pinch of salt. Most metros I'm aware of are accessible. You really don't need to stay directly in the city centre as it's so well linked up. We have loads of art galleries ( although I'd skip the Baltic and only maybe go for the view at the top) the Laing art gallery is one of the better ones but make sure don't miss out on going upstairs; as that's where all the best paintings are. The Hancock museum is HUGE to explore. The theatre royal is always running some kind of production. You have markets on the quayside on a Sunday, comedy clubs, nightclubs, a gay scene near the train station, cafes, pubs, lots of places to shop and eat.
