Discovering Hamburg for the first time. It is an atypical city, very interesting with several aspects. I really enjoyed walking along the river and taking the public boat that allows you to discover the city. The architecture of the city as well as its monuments and churches are magnificent. I recommend spending at least 2 days there and if you are lucky with beautiful sunshine. Concerning the food, you absolutely have to try a fish sandwich on the port. On the other hand, it is a city that can be dangerous for a girl alone. Especially the area next to the station.

Couple travel experience

Hamburg is safe, nice and beautiful! I loved to walk around in the summer evening without any problems or anyone bothering, the food is nice and there are many places to visit. My favorite places were the streets with Portuguese restaurants, specially the cafe Crystal, where I used to have my breakfast. I would definitely go again.

I personally don't feel super comfortable walking around alone in Hamburg after dark. During the day it's completely fine tho as long as you don't walk any creepy places. That is however just my personal gut feeling. There's definitely safer places, as there is a problem with drugs and poverty especially around the train stations, but it's not like crime is crazy in Hamburg. Just listen to your gut and stay in more crowded places maybe.

In generell Hamburg is a Safe Place to stay. Anyways there are a few spots Where you shouldn‘t be (alone) in the evening. For example, St Georg or the Reeperbahn are such places. But even there, nothing has happened to me yet. However, I did not feel comfortable and/or safe. When you're drunk, you should generally be careful, otherwise you might get robbed. So It‘s better to be with others.

Getting around in Hamburg with public transportation works fine! Avoid reeperbahn or just give it a quick visit but for example in the sternschanze you can find many save places for woman and an alternative community! Try the falafel from 'Falafelstern' or have yourself delicious vegan cakes from 'Kjeks'

You have to take ride with the harbour ferry. Its inclouded in the metro ticket and you can experience Hamburg from the waterside. In "Oevelgönne/Museumshafen", you can walk along the beach of the river "Elbe".
