Is Perth Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Perth is generally a safe city for solo female travelers. It boasts of a low crime rate and locals are friendly and helpful. However, like any destination, it's always important to stay alert and be cautious, particularly at night and in less crowded areas. How safe is Perth?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Perth is generally a safe city even at night for solo female travelers. Like any other city, it has its share of crime but areas frequented by tourists remain well lit and patrolled. Nonetheless, it's always advisable to stay vigilant, avoid deserted areas and always keep your belongings secure. Walking alone at night in busy areas should not pose a problem, but again, it's prudent to stay attentive to your surroundings.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Very safe

Public transportation in Perth is highly reliable and safe to use. Buses, trains, and ferries are frequently monitored and equipped with security cameras. There is excellent information available both online and at the stations, with timetables and routes clearly posted. The Transperth staff and security officers are helpful and visible. Late-night services are limited but adequately safe. In general, passengers are respectful, adding to the overall safe feeling.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Perth is generally very friendly and safe for solo female travelers. While everyone's experiences may vary and no place is completely free of street harassment, it is generally sparse in Perth. Most citizens are respectful, and instances of overt harassment are typically rare. As is the case anywhere, caution should be exercised especially during night hours and in less crowded areas.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Perth is generally a safe city for solo female travelers. Petty crimes like pickpocketing or bag snatching are not common, but like in any other city, they can occasionally occur, particularly in crowded places or major tourist attractions. Therefore, caution should be exercised by keeping belongings secure and staying aware of the surroundings especially when in busy areas.

Couple travel

I lived in Perth for about 1.5 years and I still regret not traveling around Australia. Perth is very calm and is frequented by many international students. If you like nightlife, Perth might not be for you. There are many daytime activities and during public holidays, but except for the Northbridge area, many places close early in the evening. During the day, I always felt safe; the Aboriginal people, except for the noise they made, are harmless. But at night you have to be careful, it's better not to walk around alone in the evening, especially in less frequented areas. We lived in a car for about 8 months, with about a month spent sleeping in public areas. Besides being illegal, I advise against sleeping in open areas. Only three times did anyone knock on our door, two of which were police 😅 but the third time was quite scary.

Solo travel

Medium safety, had a few men catcall and follow me, especially at night. There was not much to do at all in the city centre, I would recommend going elsewhere such as Fremantle, or buying a van and doing a road trip

Perth feels very safe! The Aussie way of life is welcoming and warm. The beaches are incredible and the weather is usual pretty good- though windy at times. Australia is an adventurers dream with all of the rugged land and amazing people. You can find some great hostels and lots of room shares. It’s not the cheapest place to travel but with the right planning doesn’t have to break the bank. Perth is certainly more quiet than the east coast but it’s a natural paradise and I will be back / recommend it for a first time solo trip for any woman!

Group travel

Oh, I love Perth! I didn't have high expectations for it when I traveled there. Eventually, I was enchanted by it. Rottnest Island is an absolute must-see. You can rent bikes there to explore the island. It was such fun! The Margaret River wine region is reportedly also amazing! I hope to be able to travel there in December when we return to visit my fiancé's family for Christmas!

Solo travel

In the heart of Perth there is a bridge for climbing and zip-lining, head to Freo to explore the history and great places to eat and drink, and besides that there's still Rotto, Margaret River, Pinnacles up north!

I’ve lived in Perth for my whole life and very minimal bad things have happened to me here before. Overall i think it’s very safe, minus the very occasional negative experience that is hard to avoid all together no matter where you are.

Perth is a small and safe city mostly centred on suburban and coastal living. Generally people are friendly and easy going, always happy to help. Public transport hubs, streets and city parks are well lit.
