Perth is generally a very safe city. I am comfortable to go out at night on my own and use public transport. I feel there is less crime here than in other major cities in other countries. Just take the sensible precautions.

Perth is quite safe in most areas. It can be a little sketchy in the city, Northbridge, and Fremantle on weekend nights but even then there’s plenty of police and security around. I wouldn’t recommend staying in places like Midland and Ellenbrook because that can be a little sketchy but it’s not likely visitors would go to visit those areas anyway.
Posted: May 19, 2025I’ve lived in Perth for my whole life and very minimal bad things have happened to me here before. Overall i think it’s very safe, minus the very occasional negative experience that is hard to avoid all together no matter where you are.
Posted: May 6, 2025I think people are really kind so they will help you if something happens. But it is still a big city. When its dark and there are only men I am worried and afraid if beeing alone. I think bad stuff is happening everywhere so its not about the city. But Perth does have a little wiered vibe to be honest. Anyway, I still like it.
Posted: April 3, 2025Overall, Perth is generally safe. There are areas where you would want to avoid at night because of colourful people but that isn't special to Perth. Awareness and caution are always important even in the safest cities and Perth is no exception.

Australia
Stayed for a week, one of the best holidays I've ever had within Australia! I've been recommending it to everyone I talk to. Highlights: - Rottnest Island, the quokkas were absolutely adorable and they're so unbothered by humans. The swimming here was amazing, we just used the hop on-hop off bus and it was much easier than the other option of biking. Definitely worth getting the bus. One thing we wished was that we had snorkels, there was a small shipwreck close to shore that you can snorkel at and we sadly missed out. But still best swimming ever. - Adventure World, Even as an adult the tornado water slide was such a thrill and highly recommend, there's a proper terrifying rollercoaster. - Two Rocks, were driving out to see the Pinnacles but got stopped halfway coz of a fire, randomly ended up at Two Rocks instead. There was a giant statue of King Neptune, experienced the best sunset of my life and even saw a couple of sea lions lounging around. - Sea Kayak Tour, it was a bit pricey but it was something I've never experienced before and definitely worth it. Saw sea lions, a variety of birds, and got to experience kayaking through the waves on the Ocean. Not worth the hype: - Penguin Island, on Google it seemed very interesting but in reality wasn't very. Was kind of a plain expanse and we thought snorkeling would be cool but didn't end up seeing anything noteworthy, instead were ambushed with seaweed and came too close for comfort with jellyfish.
Posted: June 6, 2025Experienced: February, 2025I lived in Perth for about 1.5 years and I still regret not traveling around Australia. Perth is very calm and is frequented by many international students. If you like nightlife, Perth might not be for you. There are many daytime activities and during public holidays, but except for the Northbridge area, many places close early in the evening. During the day, I always felt safe; the Aboriginal people, except for the noise they made, are harmless. But at night you have to be careful, it's better not to walk around alone in the evening, especially in less frequented areas. We lived in a car for about 8 months, with about a month spent sleeping in public areas. Besides being illegal, I advise against sleeping in open areas. Only three times did anyone knock on our door, two of which were police 😅 but the third time was quite scary.
