How safe is Gold Coast?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Gold Coast is generally considered quite safe, even at night. It benefits from a robust police presence, especially in areas frequented by tourists. Just as with any city, it is always important to stay mindful of your surroundings, particularly in less busy areas or beach fronts, which may not be as well-lit or heavily populated. However, the thriving nightlife of the Gold Coast often means there are people out and about which can contribute to a feeling of safety. Always use common sense and consider taking cabs or using ride shares if you're traveling long distances at night alone.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Gold Coast is generally reliable and safe. The tram network, known as the G:link, buses and trains are commonly used by locals and tourists alike. They are well maintained, well lit and have frequent service. Many routes run until midnight or later. However, like anywhere, stay alert especially during late night hours. Some areas might be less populated, and it's always wise to avoid deserted stations or stops.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Gold Coast is generally a safe destination for solo female travelers. Street harassment is usually uncommon, with public spaces in the area being busy and monitored. However, like anywhere in the world, it’s prudent to stay alert and aware of your surroundings at all times.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Gold Coast generally has a relatively low risk of petty crimes. Safety measures are widely implemented and the city is well-secured, making it a rather safe destination for solo female travelers. However, crimes like pickpocketing or bag snatching still can occur, particularly in crowded areas or during high tourist seasons. Always remain aware of your surroundings and secure your belongings to lower these risks.

Solo travel

I solo travelled to the Gold Coast alone for 10 months. It is a place I love so much and really enjoyed. I never felt unsafe there. Never had problems walking around alone at night, although it’s something I don’t recommend. People there are very friendly and easy to come in contact with. Going to the beach is a must! Burleigh beach, Tallebudgera Creek and Rainbow bay are my favorites! Watching the sunsets and sunrises while sitting at the beach is just incredible. For food I recommend Paddock’s bakery and Helen’s Heavenly Wholefoods cafe for the best açaí bowls! To get around buses work great, get a go kart as soon as you get there. Safe travels❤️!

Is Gold Coast safe for women?

Safety index

Crime index

1.6 /5

Based on 5 local experiences

Gold Coast is safe majority of the time. There’s is a bit of youth crime in certain suburbs but more so just young kids messing around. Places like surfers paradise I would be more worried about as it is much more of a party scene and people have been attacked before.

The Gold Coast is a very safe place for solo women to travel. Hostels are very safe and you are very unlikely to experience sexual harrassment in any form from people on the street. It is very safe to walk after dark and use public transport at night if you take a normal level of precaution.

About Me

Hi everyone! I am a 25 year old gal from Australia (originally South Africa) who loves to travel. 🏖️ My favourite travelling is one where I can experience new things, learn about the local culture and history, interact with nature, and make new friends. 💖 I have visited many countries, but never alone, which is why I’ve signed up for this app. I will be doing a long term solo trip around Europe soon. I’m vegan which is an outcome of my belief to care for everything great and small. I desperately need animals in my life and seek out ways I can spend time with pets along my travels to recharge my battery 🐩🐈‍⬛. I look forward to hopefully meeting some of you!
