How safe is Munich?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Munich is generally a safe city to navigate at night as a solo female traveler. Public spaces are well-lit, frequented by locals, and patrolled by Polizei (local police), even during the later hours. Always stay alert, stick to bustling areas and use common sense when walking alone. Crimes do happen but are relatively rare, particularly in comparison with other large cities globally.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Very safe

Public transportation in Munich, including buses, trams, and the U-Bahn and S-Bahn train systems, is generally very safe and reliable. Vehicles are often well-maintained and clean. It's rare to encounter serious crime, with most incidents related to petty theft, such as pickpocketing, which is still relatively uncommon. Traveling at night is also largely safe, with night buses and trams available, although slightly increased caution is advised. Munich's transport services also have a solid reputation for punctuality and efficiency.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Munich is generally known for its safety and orderliness. The incidences of street harassment are fairly low, as locals are generally thought to be respectful and mind their own business. However, as with any large metropolitan city, it's always important to stay alert and aware of your surroundings. Common sense should not be dismissed and all required safety precautions should be undertaken.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Munich, generally, has a low rate of petty crimes, such as pickpocketing or purse-snatching, particularly when compared to other global cities. However, like all destinations, it requires caution, especially in crowded areas and public transportation. Always keep your belongings close and be aware of your surroundings.

I loved my time in Munich! I got to experience many of its wonders - singing along to YMCA and John Denver at Oktoberfest, stumbling upon crazy cool landmarks like a palace and cathedral just by wandering around, and even learning that sea urchins have Zelda-boss-eyes and some fish have arms? My 4 days there were fantastic, filled with fun, new friends, beer, and pretzels (I actually prefer American pretzels). I felt very safe in Munich, even at Oktoberfest when squashed between thousands of people in the beer tents. Only one man tried to hit on me and multiple people stepped in to stop him. I made friends there quickly, though we parted ways at the end of the celebrations. I wasn't out at night except for taking the u-bahn back to my airbnb, which felt very safe even though I was quite tipsy. The ability to get around easily was AMAZING. Munich, and my subsequent trip to Berlin, made me fall in love with public transportation even more than I already was. I didn't need to rent a car - I could even get to the castle (Neuwaschstein? Sorry I totally forgot how to spell it) from Munich within 1.5 hours on a train. On my last day there I also stumbled upon an anti-fascism and pro-LGBTQ protest, which I joined for a short time. Happy to see people around the world fighting for what's right! The Munich Zoo was also great with large exhibits for their animals. Many of the primates looked bored and skinny though, which makes me worried about their health. All other animals seemed very well taken care of. The only downside to this trip was my Airbnb, where I was promised a single private room and was instead given a bed in a dining room of an apartment where multiple men were staying. The host left food out on the kitchen counter which collected flies and smelled after a few days. I tried to spend most of my time outside of the Airbnb, and really should've canceled and stayed elsewhere. I would highly recommend Munich for its architectural beauty, safety, ability to get around, and if you can make it - Oktoberfest!

What I did in Munich: Visited BMW Museum Visited Olympic Park Liked around Mariaplatz Square Ate a traditional meal in Mariaplatz Visited and took a tour of Bayern-München Allianz Stadium I was there a day and a half total. It was very safe and clean, the people are friendly to help guide me for transportation, all the places I visited to I was satisfied. I’m not a Maylee car person but it was cool to see the BMW museum and they have free bathrooms WC:) The Olympic park was very pretty and has a little hike at a hill you can see great views from. I felt safe even getting off my bus at 2AM, but kept being aware of my surroundings. Hostels are about $20-$25 USD a night. I highly recommend Munich!!

Great parks to visit and the summer is even better. I loved the boat place on the bridge (do not remember the name). Architecture and streets are great for all day strolling around. Plus Christmas markets are really getting you in the mood!

I felt extremely safe, munich is a very safe city except for the Oktoberfest time because of all the tourists which are usually very drunk and act stupidly, other than that i felt very safe i took the U-ban (metro) alone everywhere. German food, in general, isn't that great. They have hood bread, tho. I recommend going to the BMW museum (if u like cars), the Olympia park, Marienplatz, Englischer Garten, Eisbachwelle (surfers wave), Hofgarten. And if u like hiking, there is Neuschwanstein castle and Marienbrücke (not exactly IN the city). If u want to experience the Oktoberfest vibes but don't like the crowds (which there are a lot of) (it's very overcrowded), i recommend going in mid april and attending the Frühlingsfest which is the same but not as well known so less people and more fun. I think it lasts about 2 weeks.

I was staying in Munich just for a couple of days, so I didn’t have a lot of time, but I like the city so much! I really enjoyed walking by the river. There are bicycles everywhere! Prices are kinda high comparing to Prague where I live, but that’s live. Oh, and I was staying in Wombat’s City Hostel which is an amazing place to stay!

I visited for 2 weeks, fortunately I had free accommodation (visited a friend’s sister). Munich has many interesting museums to offer and many other places and attractions like surfing on the river in the middle of the city:) Overall I liked it but 2 weeks for me was a bit too much.

Great place in oktoberfest and christmas time. Lots to see and do in city and closeby areas. Worthy to travel in all seasons but flight tickets are generally too expensive. But definitely recommend at least one time experience during oktoberfest.

Couple travel

I stayed at a Wombats City Hostel which turned out to be incredibly nice. I was with my friend and we shared the room with two other girls. I felt super safe most of the time. However, I always felt a bit wary at night, especially when venturing down dimly lit streets, even though there were two of us. The people were really friendly. Surprisingly, there wasn't much to do on Sundays after 4PM, but it was still delightful to walk around outside. It was much better than I expected! I highly recommend visiting.

Munich overall is a very safe city for women. Men most usually stay in their lane and are happy to help in other instances. Apart from possible pickpockets (it's not a known problem, but it's still a big city, so beware nonetheless) There is very little crime.

I feel like it is actually pretty safe in Munich. You just don’t feel the safest when you’re alone at night and walk down a dark alley. But that’s the same feeling in every town around the world tbh.

About Me

Hey, I'm Marlene🌻 I enjoy being an old soul who reads or goes for a walk in the park. I write postcards to my loved ones when I'm somewhere. The idea that my friends and family know I'm thinking of them. I also love writing letters to my pen pals, because although writing letters is slow, it's also so much nicer and more lasting than a forgotten WhatsApp message. In general, I'm passionate about so many things! I love getting to know people and trying new things :) I'm always there when hiking, sightseeing, or enjoying a little fun drink! I really enjoy history, as well as cooking (I'm vegan).

About me

Hi, I am Miriam What should I say? Haven't described myself in a long time :) I try... I like nature although I live in the city. Especially lakes and woods. Doing music with other people is really a great way to communicate without words. I am dancing Forró. It's a brazilian dance. Therefore I often go to festivals in different places. Other from that I do different sports, like meeting people especially in nice places. Because often then there are also nice and open people 🙃 Sometimes I need time for myself. Then I watch series or I go for a hike. Or I try to read more. Which works sometimes better, sometimes less good 😊 So, that's it for the start.
