I'd recommend, renting a vehicle or book a cab using app, over public conveyance. Drive very safely. Traffic is rampant here. Be cautious at night. Some places which are isolated, must be visited in a group.

It’s definitely safer than most cities in India. Dark hours generally are not safe most places to be careful. You can safely travel alone as a woman anywhere in Dehradun or even in the mountains. They are super safe. But if you drink n stuff, I don’t think it is safe in pubs and bars as a solo woman in the evenings.

Dehradun doesn't have a lot of crime against women, so I would say it's a pretty safe city overall. The same rules as any other city apply - don't walk home alone at night, don't leave your drink unattended, etc. It's best to know a few people if you're going out as chatting to random strangers may invite trouble. Overall, my microcosm of Dehradun has fantastic people, a chill vibe, decent places to hang out, and is quite safe for women.
