Is Goa Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Goa is a heavily visited tourist destination, setting certain safety standards. In tourist areas and popular spots, safety is generally maintained, and police presence is visible. However, local customs should be respected to avoid unwanted attention, and it's always advisable to avoid isolated areas, especially after dark. Precautions such as pre-booking safe and reliable transportation and staying in well-reviewed accommodations are recommended. As with any destination, keeping personal belongings secure and not accepting drinks from strangers can further enhance safety.

How safe is Goa?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Goa is generally considered a safer destination for solo female travelers compared to some other parts of the country. However, it's important to take precautions if you're out alone at night. Stick to more populated areas and take well-lit, main roads. It's always advisable to hire a reliable cab service instead of walking alone at night. Stay alert, be mindful of your belongings, and trust your instincts as you would in any foreign destination.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Moderate

Public transportation in Goa can be quite reliable with its network of government-run buses and private taxis. However, as a solo female traveler, it's advisable to be more cautious, especially during late hours. Unauthorized taxis can pose risks so always opt for pre-booked cabs from reputable companies or use the popular app-based services. Buses linking the major towns are safe during the day, but can be crowded, so maintaining personal space can be challenging at times. It's generally safe, but always helpful to stay alert and aware of your surroundings.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Goa has a considerably higher number of tourists, including solo female travelers, compared to other parts of India. While it is generally considered safer for women, it is not completely devoid of cases of street harassment. It's always helpful to be vigilant especially during late hours or in isolated places. Take basic precautions such as dressing modestly and staying in crowded, well-lit areas.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Moderate

Petty crimes like pickpocketing and bag snatching exist, especially in crowded areas and tourist hotspots in Goa, but it is not rampant. As a solo female traveler, it is recommended to remain vigil and cautious at all times and avoid isolated places at night.

Visiting Goa with your parents is a whole different experience. You can plan slow days and relaxed evenings. Go to South Goa if you are looking for serene locations and authentic food. We stayed at a resort called Beleza by the Bay. It’s excellent with easy access to a beach.

Goa is nice, though not too safe. However, public transport is good and safe for women—this is my personal experience. South India is much safer compared to the North; the robbery rate is lower in the southern part of India. Overall, it is a nice place to travel.

Couple travel

We ate so muchh!! The food is amazing in Goa. Especially the places my boyfriend had picked. We stayed in Panjim at a boutique hotel (Mateus) for the first two days and enjoyed walking around that neighbourhood at night. So safe and serene. And so colorful :)! We went to ALL the viewpoints on our rented Fascino! The Suicide Point (Breathtaking btw) is something only locals know, so I went with a friend who lived there. It was absolutely amazing. We drank with every meal (as you do, in Goa). For the latter part of our trip, we went to stay near Anjuna Beach and we lazed around during the afternoon on the beach benches and ate some sizzler. It was a great experience.

Solo travel

Goa is a very nice place, although it is quite touristy, especially the north. its a small state in india, you can go around and stay in little villages. in anjuna there are more commercial parties but the south is more chill and there are less people but great vibes. if you are traveling solo, stay at a hostel, and ig you can ride a motorbike, rent one, is cheap and its a nice experience going around. i got sick, and had to go to the hospital, they were nice but it was quite inorganized. The food is great, try fish thali.

Solo travel

Good experience overall. I went twice. Stay was free, as someone had hosted me. Explored forts, beaches and pubs. Night travel is not safe, if travelling alone. Transportation is costly and its better to rent a vehicle once you reach. No option of ola/uber/rapido. Only private cabs are available.

Goa looks like a safe state, with different locations. There are a lot of security cameras in Anjuna Beach, for example. People don't usually walk, they all use motorcycles as a main source of transportation. The streets are dark by night.

North Goa: Some parts are safer than the others; avoid Baga / Calangute areas alone at night. Stay in Parra/Siolim/Vagator. Great if you know how to ride a scooter. Perfect in small groups. Beaches from the Morjim - Mandrem stretch are the best in the North.
