The first thing I wanna say is , don't travel in summer. Book uber/ other apps for tuk-tuks , otherwise you're gonna get charged like 200-400 rs for a few kms. Travel in local trains ,that's gonna save a lot. On the beach watch out of photo scams. Rest is good. The architecture, nature, people and food are really good.

I highly recommend visiting Chennai as a starting point for a South India trip. It is a fascinating city with beautiful sights and colorful houses, friendly people and great food. I recommend visiting Marina Beach at sunrise, then move on to Kapaleeshwarar temple (tour buses arrive around 10am and it's really peaceful before that), and then having a nice South Indian breakfast which will keep you going until dinnertime. I felt perfectly safe and comfortable in Chennai. 5 stars 🤩
Posted: March 1, 2025Experienced: January, 2025Yes, I felt safe exploring and learning about new places and experiences. I highly recommend visiting the Santhome Cathedral Basilica Church; it's an amazing place. Also worth a visit is the Golden Beach near Snow Kingdom, which is one of the best attractions in Chennai. Other notable places include the Jayalalitha Memorial, Marina Beach, ECR Beach, Partha Saradhi Temple, Iscon Temple, Snake Park, Lighthouse, and Guindy National Park. I particularly recommend experiencing the sunrise and sunset...
Posted: April 13, 2024Chennai surprised me! My ₹250/night hostel became my launchpad for exploring temples, museums, and delicious street food. Haggling in markets was a fun challenge, and free museums added to the cultural immersion. The ECR beaches offered serenity, while Matyasri Narayana temple's beachside location was unique. T Nagar's vibrant shops tested my bargaining skills, but the deals were unbeatable!

Chennai in general is a safe City. But Chennai has almost zero night life and I would suggest it's better not to be out at less populated parts of Chennai after 11 if you are alone. That being said I have never felt unsafe in Chennai, but I have not been outside alone at night.
Posted: April 16, 2026Generally, Chennai is a safe city. Cops are almost everywhere and will always come to your aid. While travelling in public transport, there are chances of being harassed. Using cab or metro services would be better

Chennai is a safe & welcoming city with a rich temple and food culture. It has a unique beauty and vibe. It isn't exactly the most inclusive for women nightlife wise, but is still a pretty great city with a lot of charm and beauty.

My native is Madurai, but Chennai feels like my another home. I have roamed across the streets, hundred times but still I'm a bit scared if something goes off for me when I'm on some roads alone with a bunch of guys or uncles, but NVM Chennai will actually teach u to be brave actually it taught me to be. Now Chennai is far more developed and safer. I would tell to come enjoy, have fun, eat a lot of delicious foods, make friends. You will love your days in Chennai. Just like I am now.

Hi! I’m Lahari. I recently moved back to India from Singapore and wear many hats as a product designer, digital marketer, and creative thinker. Originally from Chennai. I’m a curious soul who thrives on learning, exploring, and connecting with people from different walks of life. Travel is my passion, and I believe every journey brings a new story to tell. I’m drawn to the simple joys of life—chasing sunsets, basking under the moonlight, and sharing meaningful conversations. I love to dance (urban kiz and bachata are my favorites!), cook for friends, make art, and write poetry. Creativity is at the heart of everything I do, whether it’s designing, writing, or whipping up a delicious meal. I’m also deeply spiritual and grounded in my values: kindness, inclusivity, and living in harmony with nature. I’m the kind of person who values authenticity and strives to make every connection meaningful.
