Safety at night:Moderate

Manali is a popular tourist destination in India and is generally safe for tourists. However, like any other place, safety can vary depending on the area and time of day. During the night, it is advised to avoid isolated areas. Though the main areas are well-lit and populated, there might be instances of petty crime. As a solo female traveler, it's recommended to take common-sense precautions such as sticking to populated areas, avoiding late-night walks alone, and arranging your transportation in advance.

Public transportation:Moderate

Public transportation in Manali is a compromise between safety and convenience. Buses can often be overcrowded, making it a potential concern for female travelers. However, the frequency of these transport systems is noteworthy, and they are reliable for the most part. Drivers and staff are usually helpful, but language can sometimes be a barrier. While incidents of crime are not common, it's important to stay aware of your surroundings at all times, as opportunistic theft can happen. The relatively safe environment promotes trust, but paying attention to personal safety should be a priority. Local people are generally friendly and happy to help. Always try to travel during daylight hours and avoid isolated areas.

Street harassment:Low

Manali, being a popular tourist destination, has a safer environment compared to other parts of the country. Though, occasional stares or comments may be experienced but such cases are isolated and not the norm. The local people are generally respectful and helpful, ready to offer assistance to outsiders. It's always important, however, to observe basic safety precautions like being aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded or secluded areas.

Petty crimes:Moderate

Manali presents a moderate risk for petty crimes like pickpocketing, scams, bag-snatching, and minor frauds. While it is generally a safe place especially for tourists, it is still recommended for travelers to be aware of their surroundings, and to secure their personal belongings at all times.

Tap water:Unsafe

Drinking tap water in Manali, is generally not recommended for travelers. Although locals may be used to the water, visitors may find it difficult to adjust due to different bacterias and elements in the water. Is Manali worth visiting?

Group travel experience

Manali is a very beautiful and picturesque place to go. From mountains to cafes to straight food to shopping, everything is just a beautiful experience. We booked an Airbnb and the hosts were super amazing and helped us out with showing around places and recommending some really good stuff. 10/10 a must visit.
